Clearly this project is using the uPlay Z3 as a prototype for their videos. I don't think this would be a violation of kickstarter t&c. However, the creator claims this is not the Z3, and implies it is not a derivative. So, questions are:
1) Who funds the hardware design team?
2) Why was mbed shown as the prototyping platform, how does this relate to the production SoC?
3) Who owns the patents, and which are published (i.e. public, on uspto.gov)
4) How much of the project funding comes from kickstarter, who pays the rest? If this were a corporate project in disguise, it might be slightly more credible.
Basically, we are asking for some reasons to believe that this is a genuine product, and not just a marketing exercise for a cheap knock-off copy of someone else's design - it could be that there is a risk for customs to confiscate these which would be a shame...

Either KS really really screwed up on their clearance steps to grant permission to post a project or it was just sheer negligence on their part overlooking blatant lies/details in the project description..
For a project which has been well active over a week now, this is something they really need to look into, even more carefully and rethink how they accept fakes or projects without any possibility of a reality. 'Simple logic already says that this description of Rock doesn't make sense' - So Kickstarter, how did this description of @Vakster's Rock Smartwatch and his shoddy details go past the brains at your office??
True disappointment,.. first towards Vakster and his team for handling things the way they did and second towards Kickstarter to have this infomercial (aka what a child could write) get past their screening process.

And as for you the Vakster/Vak :
Account hacking-reposting-spamming... i see success for someone of this caliber lurking deep down in a cavern... When you do plan to (which i dont believe you will, if you do things this way) launch another project either here or by yourself, you have some valuable lessons to learn from the comments here... It was not a downpour gone bad for you, it was just bad smelly s*** hitting the fan and spewing all over the plans... (which could have been a bit cleaner btw).

This project looked fishy to me from the start, when reading about contradicting specs like a 1080p 240x240 display and so on..
And now things seem to get even more ridiculous.
You still have a chance to clear out all the doubts: provide specs that make sense and give us a REALLY good explaination about why the Z3 seem to be a much cheaper chinese watch which looks completly identical.
With the recent events here in the comment section, i would need a miracle to get the trust back, though.

I've reserved posting until now... At this point though, It's obvious beyond a shadow of a doubt that Vak and his team tried to pull a fast one and then bullsh*t their way out of it when they got exposed by the community.

FOR ANYONE ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR A **REAL** SMARTWATCH:
There are plenty good SmartWatches out there... You simply have to do your homework. Most are no longer on Kickstarter, but the prices and availability are improving. I would suggest looking into the Neptune Pine, Pebble, or the HOT watch... Just my personal opinion. I have several SmartWatches at the moment and they all have their pro's and con's. Ultimately, its what you specifically want in a SmartWatch that matters... And, that may not be what the next person wants.

Also, I invite anyone to check my profile... It may give you more ideas to find the SmartWatch that is right for you. I have enjoyed Kickstarter for a while now and usually back most SmartWatch projects.

Hopefully Kickstarter themselves or Vak will finally put an end to this charade and end this project.

So let me get this straight:

1. "Someone" spent hours or processing power to hack a KS account, which would provide them no benefit, financial or otherwise.
2. When said "someone" in fact hacked the KS account, they decided not to vandalize or do damage... but they did it in order to post a horribly written "answer" to a bunch of questions;
3. The principal on this project, just so happened, along with the rest of his "team" to have been completely ignoring everything going on on his project all day, as his pledges were being cancelled or reduced to $1;
4. When he does come back on, he suggests that the hacker also sat around all day posting the same long "answer" to the questions over and over and now, when all of the criticism is now buried about 10 clicks on the "Show older comments" button, he wants to make nice.... but still has no answers to any of the questions posed.
5. Mr. Sambath apparently isn't even aware of the Z3 according to his recent post calling it "some Z3".

SO. If a person is to believe that some benevolent hacker, who knows what the Z3 is (or he couldn't have done all the sad comparisons that he did), wrote a poorly concocted response to all the questions and then sat and babysat the comment page all day obnoxiously posting said poorly concocted response over and over and over again... well....I guess that person should back this project.

I'll give "real Vak" the benefit of doubt since he claims his account has been hacked and unrecoverable for 3 days. Everyone deserves a second chance to make amends but this is no excuse to hide from backers who part with their money to support you.

It is still incredulous that after so many days we've not gotten answers to the most rudimentary questions. Saying it is "better" doesn't cut it, everyone on KickStarter is "better" than someone else. Backers aren't your average "Murican redneck", we've studied and are educated and many here are engineers or have created KS projects of our own. Unless you've created a super secret computer than can out-hack the NSA, nothing is too proprietary or deserves to be undisclosed.

What we backers hope to see are working prototypes, not mockups or photoshopped images of the UI. If it is as you claim, delivery should be by March 2014, it should not be impossible to not show off prototypes, not to mention the watch has been in development for 2 years now.

And one more thing is the Rock a ripoff of the Z3? Or is the Z3 a ripoff the Rock? This is the one big elephant in the room that needs to be addressed. And since we have seen pictures of the Z3 looking uncannily similar to the Rock but has been released a year earlier. The onus is on you to prove without a shadow of doubt Rock is an original creation or you guys were ripped off.

If you wish to earn our trust and dollars to get your project funded, quit dwadling about and answer the questions we have posted in a clear and concise pattern. The experience over the past few days is rather damaging and I guarantee it will follow wherever you take your business or next venture. If you are sincere about repairing your reputation, I suggest reaching out in a friendly and non confrontational manner.

I am sorry to say that I have reduced my pledge to $1 (with no reward) just so I can comment. I was one of the first backers on this project and I thought that it looked fantastic. I backed and then I asked some questions about the battery life (that were never answered).

The following day, we heard that this was actually a copy watch from China (the Z3) and can be purchased in bulk through alibaba.com. I still kept my faith as I wondered if maybe their IP had been stolen. But then the lies started flooding in (From Vak as well as my own research).

I found a picture on website that showed this watch as ready for selling as early as May (Vak did not respond to that comment), and I even found the photo of the two cyclists from shutterstock.com.

In most of the articles on the homepage, they are more like advertisements written by Vak to promote his watch, none of the reviews actually had the watch to compare or even physically hold.

Then this morning (11.00am, Friday 6th December as I type this), I can see that throughout the night Vak has been spamming his own comments board to try and push down the negative comments.

I have been on kickstarter for a while now and this is the first time that I have seen this behaviour from a creator. I would not encourage anyone to back this project.

@Brian - Don't be a prick. We were very understanding and gave him over 24 hours to answer simple questions like how much bloody RAM is in the watch. The front page on here has rendered pictures and plenty of vague marketing terms, but absolutely no detailed specifications and absolutely no actual footage of the watch in action. What real photos and video they have are of a watch that looks exactly like the Z3, with almost the same interface, and none of these new brilliant apps he says he has patented. WHERE ARE THEY? He blatantly lies about owning patents, which are public knowledge and could easily be shared with us. I've backed plenty of small artists and game studios etc. But when one comes on here not knowing that his watch can't be 1080p if it's 240x240... Noone should trust someone like that with any amount of money. If this isn't a scam, people still need to stay very far away.
3 days and we still don't know how much RAM this thing has. Vak could have been an adult and answered our questions, instead he gave us workaround answers and attacked us because how dare us little backers question him in his "small American company just trying to make something awesome" bubble. I politely asked questions, I waited for DAYS for answers, I said I'd apologize and buy a watch myself if he just answered some questions, and he comes back with a wall of text saying "We're better than the Z3 because we're better than them. We have a better processor." If this was presented to any investor, Vak would be laughed out of the room. Maybe you should have given him some advice instead of insulting people that just wanted to help him give this information to backers. It really only got nasty when Vak started spamming and personally attacking backers.

How much RAM does the watch have? What specs on the RAM?
How does the metal body effect the Wifi, bluetooth, and the Qi charging?
What are ALL of the differences between Qi and non-Qi watches?
What are the battery specs? Not hours, but what specific battery is in the non-Qi, and what size Qi battery etc.
What is the status of ios compatibility? What do you know works with ios phones?
What apps work on the watch itself aka without phone connected?
Can you show videos of any of the apps you've made, or of apps working on a prototype? What can you show us so we can see the quality of your unique apps without compromising anything legally?
What is the screen resolution? What is the 1080p referring to?
Is the screen really OLED? Why use it over cheaper options?
What version android does both versions of the watch run? Are there plans to upgrade the version at some point?
Is liquipel what you will be doing as far as water resistance? If not what IPA rating are you shooting for?
What is the watch band size? Is it a standard size or do we have to buy any additional bands from you?
-Apps tested with portal both successes and failures.
Can you give us more information on the multi-touchscreen? (this is mostly for the engineer in me, as far as is it capacitive etc)
Can you give us any specs on the vibration? Is it comparable to the Pebble in terms of strength? Does it have different vibration settings?
You might have answered this but: Does each watch come with 1 leash device?
Are you joking on all the backers here ?? It is the 1 of April or December ?

3.In your project you show us a picture of a board of the watch, but this board not corresponding of the watch board, how this board have a place for 2 buttons and your watch that you are presenting have 1 button ?? and many more that i will not enter in it because its seem to me that you dont understand anything about your project or on smartwatches.... strange for a person that develop it or pretend to develop it its sound to me better !
4.You show in your project a screen (Pebble style) but the screen of your watch is a 1.54 inch so how the screen of testing are smaller, different and not in color ?
5.For the QI charger if from Appscomm(Chinese company) they tell you it is possible dont believe them its just an advise for you, it will never work due to the back of this watch.
6.You are writing in the "UP AGAINST THE COMPETITION Table" that you have a 1.54 Oled ?? Did you know that a Oled screen only Samsung produce it and its starting from 1,63.
7.High definition 1080P how you get to that on a poor TFT screen with 240X240 ?
Every time that I see this project more and more I find it to much like a scam sorry!!

Take good examples of Pebble, Agents, Omate this guys real work and develop a smartwatch!!!!

Vak has provided false and misleading information, has spammed the comments to try and drown out negative responses, and hasn't answered a single question of the backers.
Response to the meltdown Vakbot is spamming:
1) Besides saying "dual processor" I have yet to see any stats on this different processor you reference
2) You have yet to show how well the Qi works with the watch, just shown pictures of a watch that looks like the Z3 on some kind of dock
3) You have yet to show any actual patents so stop saying you have patented apps/etc
4) Upgrading an android version hardly makes it a different watch
5) Again claiming patents without any patent numbers or info. If you haven't actually applied/recieved a patent, don't claim to have it patented
6) You have yet to show how the tracking works, and it's not like tracking apps are new
7) You have shown standard watch bands and some pictures made on a computer, not actual products in these many colors
8) Have yet to see this work, and it seems to just be an app that moves apps onto the watch from the phone, much like you can export watch skins to Pebble
9) notifications and time? Pebble has a watch and a vibrate function. Fail to see how yours is special, and again with claiming patents you don't have
10) You have a metal case. Ok.
11) Fitness apps are everywhere. Again yet to see actual app in action
12) Paying a company to develop apps for you (which we don't know is true or not) doesn't make your watch different
13) There aren't really enough on the market to call some high end. Samsung is the closest you get. This statement means nothing
14) So you can charge more, yes. We understand but again Z3 is in China, you're in the US. Yuo claim higher stats. You added metal to the frame. Of course that's more expensive.
None of these provide any of our answers. You still provided no new specs, no new pictures or video. Making bold claims is easy, backing them up is what we want.

Come on - Vak couldn't even give detailed specs in a timely manner.
IMHO had he presented this as:
--Hey, we're getting some smart watches from a source and we've got some real cool additions...
--Here are the detailed specs....

This probably would've flown. But instead this was presented as, "Look what WE'VE done"...and presented as all their own work. Ask for details? Silence.

Come on, he at one time listed the memory in the watch as 4G -- a cellular standard instead of 4 GB.

Would you buy something from someone that can't even describe their project accurately? Would you go with someone who derails the conversation when asked legitimate questions?

Yeah, it's real sad we STILL don't have specs and answers as to why a bunch of pics on his front page match some Chinese Z3 watch.

Again, had the guy been up front and said, "Hey, we got this watch, we're gonna add Qi, some really cool software..." I think people would've been OK with it. People don't like being deceived.

Take your shot at your dreams on KS -- just be legit.

TO ALL POTENTIAL NEW BACKERS READ THIS:
Vak has provided false and misleading information, has spammed the comments to try and drown out negative responses, and hasn't answered a single question of the backers.
Response to the meltdown Vakbot is spamming:
1) Besides saying "dual processor" I have yet to see any stats on this different processor you reference
2) You have yet to show how well the Qi works with the watch, just shown pictures of a watch that looks like the Z3 on some kind of dock
3) You have yet to show any actual patents so stop saying you have patented apps/etc
4) Upgrading an android version hardly makes it a different watch
5) Again claiming patents without any patent numbers or info. If you haven't actually applied/recieved a patent, don't claim to have it patented
6) You have yet to show how the tracking works, and it's not like tracking apps are new
7) You have shown standard watch bands and some pictures made on a computer, not actual products in these many colors
8) Have yet to see this work, and it seems to just be an app that moves apps onto the watch from the phone, much like you can export watch skins to Pebble
9) notifications and time? Pebble has a watch and a vibrate function. Fail to see how yours is special, and again with claiming patents you don't have
10) You have a metal case. Ok.
11) Fitness apps are everywhere. Again yet to see actual app in action
12) Paying a company to develop apps for you (which we don't know is true or not) doesn't make your watch different
13) There aren't really enough on the market to call some high end. Samsung is the closest you get. This statement means nothing
14) So you can charge more, yes. We understand but again Z3 is in China, you're in the US. Yuo claim higher stats. You added metal to the frame. Of course that's more expensive.
None of these provide any of our answers. You still provided no new specs, no new pictures or video. Making bold claims is easy, backing them up is what we want.

I am really disappointed to see a project like that (Scam) in Kickstarter!!
I love Kickstarter and a big fan of it but sorry I feel that I need to alert all the backers here even that I was needed to pay to write this comment!!
The smartwatch that you are presenting is a poor Chinese smartwatch that is calling the Z3, she came out in China one year ago with no success due to the Bluetooth connection problems with smartphones, the Z3 cost around 30$ on bulk quantities, the spec of this cheap smartwatch are far like you are pretending, very disappointing also to see that you lie to all of us and pretending for long years that your team develop it.
Take good examples of Pebble, Agents, Omate this guys real work and develop a smartwatch!!!!
Shame of you and your Team very frustrated that Kickstarter dont do anything and allow this types of projects!!
Next time try to do your homework and be logical with the spec, 4GB of Ram ?? what you are joking on backers ? 4GB of memory ? For your record this poor Chinese smartwatch have 2GB of memory and 256mb of Ram it is Running on Android 4.1 and not 4.2!! Oled screen?? 1080P ?? What are you dreaming ?? Even you dont know how to explain what is a resolution so you want Oled screen and 1080P on it ?? Vak please stop jock on us, not everybody are dumb!! For your knowledge the Z3 screen is 1,54 poor lcd. Its not possible to add QI charger on the Z3 due to his construction, the charger is a clip like the first Omate charger.
The App is also developed by the same Chinese company by the name of Appscomm dont confuse with the well known company Foxconn and they are far to finish the app for just receiving Text message.
Notifications such as Facebook, Email can be receive only by wifi and not like you are pretending by your smartphone like the Gear!! Next time also dont jock on others and do comparisons with Omate and the Neptune Pines that are far far away advanced from the Z3 specifications and features even the old good Pebble are better!!

The project is legit, and it is real sad how this comment section has become completely derailed. I came to know of this project through some other professionals in the community, and we have been following it for a while. I am not involved in the project or the company, so let me be honest: I do not know everything about it, but I know these guys are real, and have been working on this for a while.

If you don’t like Vak, or don’t like the project, don’t back it. KS is a place for the rest of us to get a shot taking our dreams to market, and it’s pretty pathetic that some people take so much of their time to troll so hard on something they know so little about.

Some guy is just trying to get his business off the ground, and it’s a bummer that he has to spend half his day copy/pasting his own comment to push down all the negativity. Granted he could have benefited from some smother PR, but live and let live guys.

@francis I see that campaign closed 2 weeks ago. Achieved $16,000 pledges but the goal was $100,000. Another problem with Indiegogo (I forgot to mention before) is the flexible funding option which means the creator gets to keep the money, however much they raise. No updates or word from the creator since then. Wonder if they'll keep the money and deliver the goods?

For all of Kickstarter's faults, it is a better system than Indiegogo where creators post their projects without prior approval from the platform; backers can't withdraw their pledges before the campaign closes; and creators can delete backers' comments.

As for VAKcillate, can you imagine what he'd do with an Indiegogo campaign? We Aussies would say he has a kangaroo loose in the top paddock.

It is doable and not that hard but I think it crosses a line....much like giving out personal information here.

The behavior of @Vak and/or his team should not dictate our behavior. It's all well and good to have a bit of fun but I think all backers should do their own research.

Furthermore I would quickly ban an account that appeared to be doing this type of behavior. @Vak's behavior shouldn't dictate our behavior.
