public engagement with quick easy tips that help shift our habits to better benefit local food producers + consumers!
The video says a lot, but here's a bit more:
TIPSTART is an innovative concept that uses art to develop and disseminate easy steps for transitioning everyday habits to better support local food producers and consumers. This summer, I am collaborating with several different artists to prototype a few engagement events at the Mill City Farmer's Market and give away custom tips via artistic products. This framework will be shared with farmer's markets across the nation to launch public engagement projects around many different local food topics.
Each project is different, and as simple as possible in its framing to allow for maximum diversity in the types of responses offered. As an example, integrating local seasonal food into menu planning a family of four is much different than transitioning a college student's diet. Artists will craft products ranging from recipe cards, to conversation points on agricultural subsidies, to edible table arrangements.

Many thanks to the Mill City Farmers Market for helping me develop + select ideas for this season, the fantastic folks that helped me with this video, and to Sarah Schultz for suggesting that I do a residency at the farmers market where I was a fishmonger!
Pin Board Policy is the first project, set to run on 7/7 at Mill City Farmers Market from 8am-1pm. We'll engaging the public on policy issues of importance to the farmers, especially disaster relief to address the effects of this extreme storms we've been having! The trick will be to test how we can deliver information in a fun fashion, in fifteen seconds or less.
We'll have an interactive topic board that links topics that YOU'RE interested in [local jobs, accessibility, cost] to policy actions that impact farmers.
We'll have other formats too!
