Welcome to the ClockTHREEjr Kickstarter project and thank you for your interest.  Our goal with this project is to build a less expensive, open source, word clock that is highly customizable, looks great and is fun to build. 

ClockTHREEjr is an awesome platform for anyone wanting to explore time with electronics.  The ClockTHREEjr is a smaller version of our earlier, wildly successful, Kickstarter project ClockTHREE.   ClockTHREEjr fits perfectly in a 9" by 9" IKEA RIBBA frame in your choice of colors (not included, sold separately).  To make the kit even easier to build, it features mono-color LEDs instead of red, green and blue (RGB) full color LEDs and the LED matrix is smaller at 16 columns and 8 rows, giving a total of 128 addressable LEDs.  Other than that, it is similar to the larger, more expensive ClockTHREE.

We need $2500 to make a minimum quantity order of clock kits and we can't get there without your support.  So help us to manufacture ClockTHREEjr, an open source Arduino compatible LED array. 

The initial application is for a word clock but since each of the 128 (16x8) LEDs are individually addressable and programmable, this device supports several languages (work with us to add yours with the LINGUIST reward!) as well as any number of other applications. Several ClockTHREEJr boards can be connected together to create an even larger LED matrix for applications including a scoreboard style racing clock.  We are offering 3 and 5 board versions of our DOOMSDAY clock.  Get ready for 12/21/12!  ;-)

You asked for it? you got it!  We designed our DOOMSDAY clock rugged enough to work outside as a mountain bike race timer.  The beefed up enclosure cost quite a bit more than the standard ClockTHREEjr enclosure.  The we realized that most people don't need a water resistant rugged enclosure for thier multi-board clock.  We negotiated a deal with our supplier and are now able to offer 2 and 3-board indoor to-the-minute word clocks at a substantially reduced rate.  Behold:

Our open source design was inspired by Simon Hey's 2007 open source word clock, Doug Jackson's word clock, the awesome single color Peggy 2 LED array sold at the very cool EvilMadScience and the super cool $1200 QlockTWO.

This is a collaboration between four friends on different sides of the world, Anool in Mumbai, India, Justin in Washington, D.C., USA, "Anonymous" in Canada, and David in Sydney, Australia. Justin and Anool previously worked together on the award winning Bar End Brake Light BEBL and also the SharkFin helmet light and of coarse on ClockTHREE.

So far we have already completed the initial design, laid out the board and even fabricated our first versions of the clocks.  We want the next version to be more affordable by buying in volume.  This is the least expensive fully addressable open hardware word clock available today.

That is where YOU come in! The funding raised through Kickstarter will allow us to create ClockTHREEjr and offer boards, kits and clocks to our backers.  All of our partners at WyoLum are volunteers who only do this as a hobby.  Proceeds exceeding our costs are re-invested in WyoLum and are used to support Open Hardware in general.  

As a promise to our backers, we will update the Kickstarter Backer page on a weekly basis AT A MINIMUM.
