We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

News, Mo-cap and a new reward level!

Update #2 · May 8, 2012 · 7 comments

We are now one full week in our Kickstarter campaign, and even though we have had some great responses, things are not as well as we had hoped. Last week, we've received a lot of good feedback, and adding the $15 reward has certainly given us an impulse. However, we need to come up with something new in order to draw the attention of a large audience.

But, let’s talk about the project. Just last Friday, we have been invited over to the Motion Capture studio Gameship, where we were offered a full day of motion capturing for Cross of the Dutchman. If that wasn’t enough, Arjen Meijer (who by the way is one of our first backers) has arranged for Mishael Lopes Cardozo to perform the movements. Mishael is a world champion and master in the arts of medieval sword fighting. I can safely say that the material we shot that day was nothing short of amazing. With these animations shot, we're confident that there will be movements in Cross of the Dutchman that are unlike any other game that features sword fighting. We’ve worked with Mishael to not only use his skills with the sword, but also come up with moves that would have fitted with a man like Grutte Pier. Some of the moves are acrobatic, and others are simply a show of brute force. It is now up to us to get these animations ready and in the game as soon as possible.

Which takes us to the next subject, the topic of gameplay. During development, we knew that even though we had so much cultural history and references in our game, first and foremost it needed to be fun to play. So when we started with the development, we created many prototypes that proved us the kind of gameplay we wanted from the game, but up until this very day we have not shown this in combination with the graphics and environments that make up the game at this stage.

So, how far are we from showing actual gameplay? Well, we do see that this is one of the most important things that is preventing people from backing our project, so it is on the very top of our list. As soon as we have the mo-capped animations cleaned up and ready to go, we will be able to show an epic battle taking place.

And finally, I would like to introduce a brand new and very exciting reward! Pascal Brander, our art director, has designed all the characters and environments for Cross of the Dutchman. He is an excellent artist, and thanks to him, we are now offering a unique, hand drawn and signed sketch of Grutte Pier. We’re introducing this reward at the pledge level of $150. Backers who choose this reward will have a unique sketch sent to them along with the T-shirt and Novel in one package. The sketch will be attached to a hard surface, making sure that it reaches you in the best possible condition.

That is it for now, thank you for backing our project, and please remember to spread the word about Cross of the Dutchman!

@AJDV, we've contacted Doutzen Kroes and a couple of other famous Dutchies, but haven't heard from them. Especially Doutzen, who is also supportive about "Praat mar Frysk" would love the project.

Oh and you can always change your pledge, we add new rewards to make it interesting for people to increase their pledge to the project :-)
