About this project
Hiding Games is a short narrative film that tells the story of an 11 year-old girl in rural Appalachia coping with her mother's meth addiction, and how far she will go to save herself, her mother and her family. The story for the film was inspired by a documentary Michael worked on in 2008 about a heroine-addicted single mother in Appalachia and her kids' struggle to grow up essentially without a mother or father.
The film will be completed in Fall 2010 in preparation for the 2011 festival circuit. Following industry showcase, the film will be used for local and national community education by organizations such as schools, substance abuse prevention centers, and police departments. It may also be used by such organizations for fund raising and advocacy.
Similar outreach/advocacy projects have been attempted by many of the local youth, health and safety organizations, but none have had far-reaching effects, largely due to budget constraints. All we need is $5,000 to enhance the production and its life in the appropriate markets, giving this complex subject the attention it deserves. Already lots of community members and artists have donated hundreds of hours of their time in the making of this project. Help make our dreams a reality by donating a few bucks!
The overall goal is to make a short film that is compelling and well-received enough to expand into a commercial-release feature sometime in the future.
