LA ARTDUDE MUSICA MURAL TO
UR PARA NINOS DE COSTA RICA:
THE ARTDUDE CHILDREN'S MUSIC MURAL TOUR OF COSTA RICA
The fundamental basis of this project is the empowerment of children through community-based public art making.

The focus of this tour will be
traveling across Costa Rica making percussive music and painting canvas murals in
locations throughout the southeast region of the country. The ARTDUDE Children's Music-Mural Tour of Costa Rica is a RISD
Independent study class which will consist of my travels through Costa Rica
throughout 2 months, painting canvas murals with children of all ages in 8
different communities. I will start at Earth University, and I will then
take a car to Limon, Costa Rica on the Caribbean Coast. For the next 4 weeks I will
travel back to Earth University where the mural tour will conclude. Two murals will be made
each week, and thus in 1 month, eight murals will be produced. A final Children’s
Mural Exhibition will finish the trip through an ending display through Earth
University. I will be traveling with my cousin, Robert Block who will be
filming and documenting the entire experience.
Costa Rica is an extremely special nation. Because of the non-militarized democratic government, the arts have been allowed and encouraged to flourish in all definitions of the word "arts". This ranges from painting and crafts to music. Costa Rica has difficulties like many other nations, but they have a strong foundation to support this movement for children's art.

The ARTDUDE is an Artsuit of percussion armor and a hand sewn wearable art supply carrier. It holds over 20 sets of drumsticks, a roll of canvas, Paint, brushes, and Percussion instruments galore. It was built to perform at spoken-word poetry competitions, Rap Battles, music performances, children's percussion and mural making workshops, and classes of all ages. This project has already manifested itself at Hampton Meadows Primary School, Barrington, RI, where the Artdude teaches an 8-week class to third and fourth graders on creature mask making and creature performance percussion for a concluding film, through the Big Nazo Studio.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmOo-VGKBCo&feature=player_embedded

The ARTDUDE Children's Music Mural Tour allows the potential of this studio based project to come to life in the real world through this specialized independent study. This project has the potential to make a difference in the world community outside of the confines of the art school context. This project has the capability to bring smiles and learning to Costa Rican youth across the country. It also has the potential to affect a huge number of lives through the Internet, the actual murals, and the relationship between the two mediums. This project allows for informed excitement to fuel planned spontaneous creation. I already have the experience of executing The New Zealand Children’s Art House Mural Tour, where 10 murals were painted across the country, which are now in a final exhibition in the Nations Children’s Art capital, which has been successful and is now moving to The National Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK_hhZO5PEc .

Whatever you can do to support this project will benefit all the children involved, their families, their communities and their voices to all of you, the world. If we are able to raise enough funds to make sure this project is successful, it will only be the beginning. And no matter what, this project and all its potential will manifest itself as successfully and creatively as possible. Here is a list of needed items- 1. Electric motorized scooter, Razor etc. ( SOUNDCREATURE as a steed for the ARTDUDE to ride into sound you making, aka, for parades through out each town) also will be able to fold up into a suitcase to be able to take on the airplane. 2. Acrylic/ latex/water-based paint- Enough paint to cover eight, six ft by twenty ft canvasses. Quite a bit as you can imagine.3. Small child accessible mediums- oil pastel, watercolor, guache, paint-pens, paint-markers, blow paint, charcoal, pastels, chalk etc. 4. Eyelets and rope to be able to hang all of the murals in public locations across the country ( libraries, school, police stations, city halls, etc.).5. Eight rolls of 6ftx20ft pre-primed canvas. ( unprimed will work, primed is more professional, but canvas is canvas.) 6. An assorted amount of brushes of all shapes and sizes. Lots of fun ones. 7. Eating and living expenses for 1 month in Costa Rica, transport, travel, we all know how many things can go wrong when traveling. 8. High quality video equipment to make a professional quality documentary film throughout the tour. High quality sound recording equipment will be needed to record and represent these children to their fullest extent.
Feel free to contribute anything you think could benefit LA ARTDUDE MUSICA MURAL TOUR PARA LOS NINOS DE COSTA RICA!.

The paintbrush and the drumstick go hand in hand just like sound painting and mural making. This project will be the beginning of something large. Something that has already started. Something that will change the world.
Its the CHILDREN'S ARTOLUTION, and everyone is invited!
