First week update -- Appendix added
Something funny happened when my iPhone’s updates on the project started coming it. First I realized that some part of me didn’t want the project to happen and was quietly settling down. It’s one thing to say you want to write a book, a completely different one to see it become a real possibility in front of you. I remember standing in front of my first class and that part of me wanting it to just end. But like then, this is too big to be held down by the small part of me. There is no greater joy than to be able to make a difference and this book has the chance to do that, if this incredible support I’ve gotten so far continues. I am very grateful for your support.
This is **All or Nothing** proposition, so the project hinges on continuing to build support. The e-book is just about the price of a frothy coffee these days, so anyone that can put a day’s coffee towards this project can make a huge difference. Every person that has contributed has made a huge difference, let others know so they too can make a difference through this.
To give you an update on the book, I’ve added an appendix to it where I’ll deal with commonly used words that have lazy meanings. Words like: evolution, progress, and productivity.
We tend to use these words as if they were clear and precise, but consider progress is only meaningful if you know it’s direction. It’s progress toward what? Without knowing that direction, it can mean all sorts of things. Is progress cutting down the forests? Is that a sign of “economic progress”? Maybe it all hinges on defining towards what are we progressing to. Do we want a world that drives us, a civilization that serves it’s own economy? Or an economy that nurtures us and leads us to progress towards a more just and enjoyable future? When I hear phrases like “progress cannot be stopped,” it misses the point. You don’t have to stop progress, you just have to make sure it’s pointed in the right direction, towards something worthwhile. And that’s something worth talking about.
Are there other words that are used like this in everyday life?
