Kickstarter

City Non-Specific, our new project, began to develop a year ago in which actors and dancers gathered to improvise with movement and text to develop a dance/theatre piece.  Since then, these artists have been collaborating on the project to create a final public performance that will premiere at the New York International Fringe Festival 2012.  This project incorporates disciplines in the performing arts, including theater, dance, music, as well as multimedia and different styles of writing like poetry, narrative and non-narrative texts.  This collaboration project includes 2 dancers, 2 actors, a music composer, a video artist, a costume designer, a light designer and a stage manager. 

City Non Specific explores life in a non-specific cosmopolitan city including experiences around public transportation, shopping, love, loneliness, rejection, leisure and many others.  This exploration occurs in different spaces that people in a city frequent that can involve conflicting and humorous situations. By watching the performance, audience members begin to see themselves, identify and reflect about situations that the characters are experiencing on the stage.  The images created on the stage are based on improvisation and exploration done by the performers including contact improvisation, dance and text. Through the use of these elements, characters express emotions and thoughts in relationship to their lives in the city.

As you may know, Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing proposition. Either we raise $3500 or we get nothing.  Once we reach that goal we can keep going.  To be honest, we need more but there is no limit to investing in a new piece about life in a city.  With your support we will cover part of our rehearsal space and also pay to some of the artists involved in this project.  As you may know rental space in New York City is becoming extremely expensive and to prepare a great piece we need to spend a lot of time in a rehearsal space. We really appreciate if you support us and share this information with your friends.
