Imagine a world that ran out of energy. And imagine the children of the people who came after. What will they do to attain Power?
William Shakespeare’s Macbeth is a brutal struggle for power and identity in a world rife with ambition, betrayal, magic, religion, and war. This particular production is set in a distant future where resources are limited, the primary energy supply is used up, and society has been reduced to scavenging. We are examining what a character becomes when the stakes are high and the need to have control over chaos becomes a lust for power. Consequently we are using repurposed materials and an abandoned-building aesthetic for the costumes and set, respectively.
GTP creates "teaching" shows using theater classics - old and new. Previously we charged tuition for young people, but in this instance we are treating our actors as pre-professionals. The process is focused on developing each individual actor in the role they carry, and heavy emphasis has been placed on the study of Shakespeare and acting exercises. This production is estimated to cost approximately $1500 (sets $150 + costumes $150 + space rental $1000 + sundries $?+ director hours $infinity).
In keeping with our mission of accessible educational theater experiences we only charge $5.00/ticket. While we can cope on ticket sales alone, we can truly thrive with your additional support. The Kickstarter goal is our bare minimum to get us into the black, but we have the ability to do so much more! If we can hit:
$750 - the lighting effects will be radically enhanced on top of our space rental being covered for the first weekend.
$1000 - See above, plus the Set & Props get an upgrade with more "found" materials and special paint treatments.
$1001+ - Anything is Possible. Dream Big! More Dry Ice, Anyone?
By supporting us, you are giving these actors a chance to strive and succeed, develop their work ethic, broaden their horizons, and enhance their analytical and interpersonal skills while sharing of themselves through collaborative art.
What a bright future that will be, with these people in it.
