Hollywood: where American dreams come true.

But which Hollywood? When asked, people assume I'm talking about "real Hollywood" - Hollywood, California. But there are Hollywoods all across the country, from Oregon to Florida. What's it like to grow up in Hollywood, Alabama? Is there pressure to lead a lifestyle that's somehow larger than life in order to live up to the hype surrounding your hometown's name and history?

This summer, I'll drive from the intersection of Hollywood and Vine in Newton, Massachusetts (my home town!) to Hollywood and Vine in California, stopping along the way in nine more towns called Hollywood. I'll be interviewing residents of each place I visit and recording the interviews with the goal of making an audio documentary about the trip.

I'll also be blogging my way across the country, researching each location and its history,  and podcasting whenever I can to give people a preview of what they'll hear in the finished product. I'm even buying a super respectable camera (with my own money, not Kickstarter funds) to take great pictures of each stop on my trip!

As passionate as I am about the project, I can't do it alone. I need your support in order to afford 

• gas
• car insurance
• food (I'd be happy to eat Twinkies across America, but this seems contrary to the nature of the trip)
• a few nights in [potentially scary] motels when I can't safely couch surf
• emergency money in case my carburetor bursts into flames halfway through Louisiana
