Her name is Paula Heredia, and she is
awesome.
Here is Paula’s background:
Paula Heredia is an award winning director and editor
working in film, television and radio. A native of El Salvador, Paula has been
honored by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences with an Emmy® for her work in the HBO documentary In
Memoriam, NYC 9/11/01. She has also been the recipient of the ACE Eddie
Award® for the acclaimed documentary Unzipped, and the Hispanic
Creative Award for her film Teniendo Un Bebe.
Paula
served as Editorial Supervisor for HBO’s national health campaigns: The Addiction Project, winner of the
prestigious Emmy® Governors Award in 2007, The Alzheimer’s Project, winner of the 2009 Television Critics Award and of two
Emmy® awards, and The Weight of the
Nation a multi- part, multiplatform series addressing obesity which has
received an Emmy® nomination for Outstanding Nonfiction Series in 2012. Her
other editorial work includes: The Art
of Failure - Chuck Connelly Not For Sale a film by Jeff Stimmel, The Pact a film by Andrea Kalin, Life After life a film by Lisa Jackson,
Modulations – Cinema for the Ear, a
film by Iara Lee, and Free Tibet a
film by Adam Yauch.
Paula’s
film directorial work includes the documentaries: George Plimpton and the
Paris Review, Ralph Gibson-Photographer, and The Couple in the
Cage. Her short fiction film La Pájara Pinta, was shot on location in the mountains of El
Salvador, and premiered at the Lincoln Center Film Society LatinBeat Film
Festival. Her documentary Africa Rising, Paula
received the “Best Woman Director Award” at the International
Documentary Film Festival in Soria, Spain and was picked up for distribution by
Women Make Movies. Most
recently she finished the documentary film Slavery and the Law, a
film executive produced by DA Charles Hynes.
Paula
heads the international committee of New
York Women in Film and Television,serves on the board of
advisors of Robert DeNiro Tribeca Film
Institute’s All Access, and serves on the board of directors of Clementina, Inc.Paula’s
creative work is featured in the book: The Art of the Documentaryby Megan Cunningham.
