3 Days to Go - Some Thoughts
As this Kickstarter project winds down, I definitely want to thank everyone who has helped make it a success. Of course, I will send a more complete thank you at the end, but I want to give a special early thanks:
To James West, my first Angel Donor of $2500'
And to Digital Double (digitaldouble.com), an art & animation studio, my second Angel Donor at $2500.
These two donations put the project over the top, and they have my special gratitude for making such a difference at a critical time.
Things are slowing down now. I could use more funds to ease the burden of traveling to get the stories, but I can make it work with what I've got. I've taken my finger off the button somewhat, easing up on the promotion, but if you still have friends who might donate, there are still opportunities to do so for the next few days.
Meanwhile, I've taken a couple of days to adjust to the reality that my project is a go and the pressure and anxiety of getting to the goal are over.
There is something about Kickstarter that is both a major excitement - watching pledges come in is like getting birthday presents all day long - and a source of stress and emotional pressure. When the pledges slowed down for a day or two, I had some very down moments and serious self-doubts. When people told me how much they loved the book and how much they were looking forward to the new edition, I felt happy and - well - loved. Overall, I felt the appreciation of people who supported the project, and that's what counts the most in the end, I'm looking forward to mailing out the books to those who pledged for them.
I think I learned a lot from this project - about marketing, about putting myself out there and about my own psychology. To say that I am grateful is to understate the message. High Score is a project I love and to be very blunt, I hated the idea that it was out of print and that I could find no way to get it back on the shelves. Now, my desire is a reality, and although the work ahead of me seems daunting - as it did with the original book - I will get it done, and it will be the absolute best I can make it.
I won't have enough money from Kickstarter to fund a party next year, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. I am going to seek corporate sponsors for the party, and if I am successful, you'll all be invited.
Have a great weekend, and thank you for supporting High Score 3.

Some people have suggested that I offer a meeting with me (Rusel DeMaria). I was reluctant to do so because I can't compare myself with the other people offering their time, but I would be happy to meet with anyone who wants to share some time with me and support this project as well. Meetings would have to take place in or around Seattle unless I am traveling and can arrange something else. There is no limit to this offer, and I will also kick in a signed book AND a T-shirt.
