Who is involved in "Urge?"
Urge is being developed by Malinda LaVelle with 5 exceptional Project Thrust dancers: Emmaly Wiederholt, Joy Prendergast, Julia Hollas, Maggie Stack, and Madelyn Biven.
What is "Urge?"
Hunger. Crave. Devour. Lust. Thirst. Yearn......
No matter how you say it, we all have untamed appetites. The question is, for what? What is it that we have an urgent hunger for? People? Attention? Love? Pizza? We all need and are constantly searching for ways to satisfy our burning desire for connection and comfort--whether it's to each other, a place, a substance, or a feeling. So what happens when we fail to fulfill our hunger? Vice versa, what does it mean to be too full?
Selected by Joe Landini of The Garage to participate in a 24 week long residency as part of a larger partnership with ODC, Malinda LaVelle, choreographer and Artistic Director of Project Thrust, will work alongside five fabulously talented Bay Area dancers to explore these questions by way of personal investigation and performance.
When and Where is "Urge?"
Urge will be performed in 3 different capacities in San Francisco.
1) In-progress showing of "Urge" December 7 and 8, 2011, at The Garage.
2) Final showing of "Urge" February 10 and 11, 2011, at The Garage.
3) At ODC Theater in July 2012.
Why should you donate?
Project Thrust is fiscally sponsored by Dancers' Group, and "Urge" is funded in part by a grant from the Zellerbach Family Foundation. The company is also generously supported in residence at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance under artistic director Summer Lee Rhatigan. Even with this unwavering artistic support, Project Thrust does not have the funds to adequately pay the five spectacular performers for their professionalism, commitment and dedication toward the realization of this project. Every cent raised in this campaign will go directly to the dancers to compensate them for their many hours of rehearsal and performance.

Originally from Colorado, Malinda graduated from the University of Arizona Summa Cum Laude, where she received her BFA in Dance while working with choreographers including Charles Moulton, Paul Sanasardo, and Amy Ernst. Malinda has studied extensively at Summer Lee Rhatigan's San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, and is now an Artist-In-Residence with her company Project Thrust. She has served on the Conservatory's faculty as a guest choreographer since 2009 for their summer intensive programs and was one of their featured artist's for their Fall 2010 Dance Maker's Forum series. Now living in San Francisco, Malinda teaches for the year round program at SFCD and has performed with Alex Ketley's The Foundry, Alyce Finwall Dance Theater, and Manuelito Biag's Shift>>> Physical Theater. Project Thrust was established early in 2010 and their work has been shown in Ben Levy's Salon, at The Garage as part of their Resident Artist Workshop (RAW) Program, in the 2011 Women on the Way Festival, and in the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance’s 2011 Summer Dance Series at Z Space.
