TRANSPLANT ///. is a Work In Progress, image-based documentation of the United States of America.  It began with an interest in the way the landscape of the "New World" had been depicted at the time of European invasion.  From painters to poets, and writers to photographers, the large area of land known as the "America" has been shaped through a romanticization of Nature as seen through the perspective of White, Heterosexual, European culture.  Like most citizens of the United States, my perspective of my homeland has been shaped by this perspective.  TRANSPLANT ///. aims to capture a unique view of a post-apocalyptic country from the perspective of a Queer, Indigenous Dine' (Navajo) artist.  

Another goal of the project is to actively document the process through photography, digital video, and text/prose/poetry.  By using a variety of media and content, I hope this will help the project to take a unique shape as the weeks unfold.  Ultimately, the end goal of TRANSPLANT ///. is independent zine distribution and a potential gallery showing.  At this point, my interests lie in the fields of independent publishing and gallery installation, so the next step is to pursue both fields as a means of communication.  Though the ideal course is one that will lead me through most regions, the route is also open-ended and flexible depending on time restraints, weather, etc...  The duration of the project is estimated at 8 weeks. 

EXPENSES + REWARDS :::

To cutdown on costs I will bring along outdoor camping supplies and seek the generosity of friends and folk along the route for overnight accommodations.  At this point, the travel expenses include: gas, food, lodging, 35mm film, and regular vehicle maintenance.  Also, although the estimated cost of the trip has been established, any additional funding will be put to good use for the project.

As a personal thank you for endorsing the project, I am offering rewards/perks that capture the spirit of the trip.  This comes in the form of zines, personal bound books, a personalized mix-tape, souvenirs, one-of-a-kind personal packages, and a personal portrait/photo shoot.  Most of these projects will involve the duration of time, reflection, memory, collection, and connection.  Please keep in mind that most of these projects involve a fair amount of labor once the first portion of the project wraps up.
