Field Trip Theatre presents Danielle Mohlman's fierce new play, "Stopgap."
Field Trip Theatre is a DC-based collective of theatre practitioners who would rather produce and develop new plays than rehash the words of dead white men. Not that we have anything against William Shakespeare, Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, and Eugene O’Neill. We just aren’t the same people.
We're asking for your help to raise enough money to cover production costs for our inaugural production, a workshop and staged reading of Danielle Mohlman's "Stopgap." Funds will cover expenses such as printing scripts, advertising, and hospitality for our actors during rehearsal.
The public staged reading will take place on Saturday, January 28 at 2PM at the Cleveland Park Neighborhood Library in Washington, DC. We'd love it if you joined us.
"Stopgap" takes place in suburban Chino Hills, California, during the state’s most recent divide — the aftermath of Proposition 8. After being offered a job teaching math at his alma mater, Robert moves from Boston to his white picket fence hometown in California, bringing with him his boyfriend (and later, husband) David. After a glass of wine at a birthday brunch, May, Robert’s childhood best friend, announces that she is going to turkey baste her way into pregnancy; earlier that same day, David tells Robert that he wants to adopt. This dark comedy delves into the lives of six individuals living just on the outskirts of their white picket fence surroundings, trying to find their own definition of family in this hetero-normative community they call "home."
