UPDATE #1: Wow! Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far!
We can't believe we reached our original goal in 36 hours! We are so grateful and amazed by the outpouring of love and interest from our backers. Your tremendous generosity and support has moved us deeply.
For those who are considering or interested in supporting us further, your contributions are still invaluable! We've just received great news: a prestigious film festival has selected People's Park for the film's international premiere!
With this exciting opportunity comes greater costs. In addition to the post-production processes described below, we now have to finance the encoding of a DCP (Digital Cinema Projection, the very best in digital theatrical exhibition). Although Kickstarter doesn't allow for increases to our original goal, we can go beyond it, and we are deeply grateful for your continued support.
Thank you all for your help, your kind words and generosity!
With love and appreciation,
JP & Libbie

Why did we shoot this film?
The simple answer is that the park is a captivating and intoxicating place that completely drew us in, and it will draw you in too. We had no choice but to film. We fell in love with the people we encountered, and we went every day in July 2011 to dance with friends, sit with the families sipping tea, sing karaoke with retirees, and listen to the daily opera performances under the canopy of mighty sycamores. Steps away, there were old men writing water calligraphy on the concrete walkways and boys belly dancing with middle-aged mothers in the scorching sun.
Our friends at the park were excited to help us, and this special one-shot film exploring the park was the perfect way to capture the joy, the intensity, the freedom, and the history of the vibrant sociality that makes up People's Park. After a month of collaborative work, we have a film that we are very excited to share, and we know from responses by festival programmers and private screenings that many others are excited about it too.
Before the film can premiere in a town near you, we need to finish the expensive post-production process. We handled the basics ourselves, but we still need professionals to work their magic on the sound mixing, color correction, and stabilization. With a single-shot film (that's right, the entire film is one 80-minute shot without any cuts!) these processes are difficult, time-intensive and costly.
Our hope is that post-production will be a collaborative effort, just as the filming was. We are very grateful for any support you can provide to help us finish the film, and we look forward to sharing People’s Park with you soon!
Thanks!
With love,
JP and Libbie
