Hello friends and soon to be friends of Baggage: OneWoman/Four Stories.

This project is, without a doubt, a labour of love.

Baggage looks at the inspiring stories of four survivors of domestic violence and began as a work in progress in 2004 and toured NM as a four actor piece in 2007. Since then a number of universities have requested the show but it always proved too expensive to bring. So in 2010, I decided to adapt the piece for one person and that's the show we have before us now. One woman (me) portraying four characters as they lead us through the sorrow of their abusive relationships to the joy of their triumphs.

Did you know that the fastest growing group of victims of domestic violence in the United States are girls aged 16-23? It's true. Being a survivor of domestic violence myself I truly believe that we need this show and others like it. Theatre has a very huge capacity for healing.

On September 8th I will be taking this newly crafted, multi-media piece to the Penasco Theatre in Northern NM for it's debut and from there seeing how the show books. In each city that the show travels to we will team up with local DV service provider agencies and serve as an awareness builder. In addition, a portion of the funds from each show will go to the agency.

Your gift will enable me to take the show to NM. I need to create a minimal set (screen), purchase props and costume pieces, drive myself and my set to NM, get my director to NM and hire one stage hand when I get there. In addition, I need to pay my editor, director, dramaturg, dialect coach and capoeira teacher (all of whom have dedicated many hours to this piece already).
