Progress: sensing plucking

Update #1 · May 8, 2012 · comment

We have been working hard on a new mode of interaction with Strings that will do away with a need for bows. Instead, users will be able to use their fingers to pluck and stroke the strings in order to activate its sound. We feel this more tactile mode of will make the experience of Strings more magical. We came up with the idea of using Piezos as vibration sensors, and tested it on a small mockup. Below is a video of our test –it is working beautifully! The next step is to do a full scale mockup. We hope it works as well.

We will make you a scale replica of our full-sized installation! We will use the same materials that we use to build our full-sized installation for your model. Although it won't be able to produce sounds, it will still retain the same form, materials and aesthetics as the full sized model.
