About this project
We are a Chicago indie band that has had local success and needs funds to record our debut full-length. Since we formed in 2008, we've recorded a debut EP that has had every track on Hype Machine, sold out numerous shows in Chicago, opened for White Rabbits, Here We Go Magic, A Sunny Day in Glasgow, Shiny Toy Guns, Maps & Atlases, and The Hood Internet (among others), played SXSW in Austin, and recently had a song featured on the ABC primetime show, "The Gates". We've decided that we are due to record our first full-length and carry this momentum into a full-fledged career for our band. We have been in contact with Engine Studios here in Chicago, whose clients include Iron & Wine, Modest Mouse, and Josh Ritter, and we have agreed to record our debut album there with Neil Strauch (Iron & Wine, Gomez, Bonnie "Prince" Billy). Unfortunately, we need at least $6,000 to make this a reality, and since we don't have that kind of money lying around, we need your help. For having only been around since July 2008, the Chicago indie pop rock band Pet Lions have made quite the name for themselves. The group, comprised of Karl Ostby, Shuhei Yamamoto, Tom Owens, and Matt Dahl, skyrocketed to local notoriety with only their live shows behind them. The energy emitted at every Lions’ show was enough to garner the band a lasting affection of music fans throughout the Midwest. Ready to take their talent to the studio, Pet Lions released their debut EP, Soft Right, in March of 2009. Unlike many bands that struggle through their first EP and founding years, Lions’ debut attempt was met with praise. Their upbeat and airy melodies were a welcome throwback to early-80’s new wave while the clever lyrics made every song distinctly their own.
