Gramlins
I'd like to introduce you to one of the races in Word Realms, the gramlins:

Gramlins are generally a cowardly lot who scavenge (ie, steal) things from the more industrious races like humans and subjunctors (more on them next week!) in order to survive. Recently they've become more troublesome than usual, and it'll be your job to find out why.
I'd also like to thank those of you who've been spreading the word. We've had several articles in various video games press around the internet. Keep up the word-of-mouthing!
It seems like there's a bit of confusion about what exactly we're trying to do with this Kickstarter. Let me try to clarify. The money from this Kickstarter will largely be used to hire additional people to start working on a Word Realms MMO. Given how long the single player "proof of concept" took us, the MMO might not be ready to show anyone for a year or two. So instead of having extremely-long-timeframe Kickstarter rewards from within the eventual MMO, we decided to let backers be involved in the last few months of development on the single-player game. Does that make more sense?
Oh! And we put up a very rudimentary website at wordrealms.com — there's some new screenshots and additional info there, and it's a place to link to when talking about the game that isn't just the Kickstarter page.
Thanks again for all your support. You're awesome!

Gremlins can be found in a host of other video games. If you wanted to do this justice, you could add gremlin references from other stuff:
http://nintendolegend.com/2012/01/gremlins-2-the-new-batch/ -- For the classic Mogwai
http://dragonquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Dqm12_gremlin.gif -- From Dragon Quest
http://www.fanpop.com/spots/epic-mickey/images/18314853/title/gus-gremlin-photo -- for Disney's take (Epic Mickey)
http://wn.com/Twilight_Zone_Gremlin -- THE classic
http://tesla.liketelevision.com/liketelevision/tuner.php… -- The first one I knew about, from Bugs Bunny
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Thwacker -- representative of the Gremlins that play an important role in the online game Spiral Knights (Google Image search at your own risk, they got rule 34'd pretty hard)
According to the Wiki, gremlins originated as the well-known 'gremlin in the machine' sort of superstition, starting in the British Royal Air Force. Most references using the name have a mechanical theme, but not all.

Loved the shoutout on TRS. Alex's apparent lack of connection between Word Realms and his interview with Jick was amusing.
