Introducing the Riff System
Born of a simple cube. A modular, custom furniture system designed by artists and built to last! So much furniture today ends up in landfills within a few years. We wanted a system that would not only look great and be flexible but stand the test of time as well. The Riff system is fun. It's a great splash of color. It's modern yet harkens back to a standard of quality not often found today. This is a new concept in heirloom furniture... when your tastes or needs change, your furniture can change with you by configuring it differently or adding new prints.

It's easy and flexible. High grade Baltic Birch panels and quality steel brackets and fasteners assemble to create the piece you want. The panels come in many colorful prints, textures, and real wood veneers to give you an unparalleled level of design flexibility. Or choose from pre-configured options our designers have created for you.

Where are we with this product?
Last year we exhibited at ICFF in New York with prototypes of our Riff System and had great response.
In December we were featured in the NY Times Holiday Gift Buying Guide and were on the front page of the home section with our NY Map Chest. That was a little trial by fire...We didn't have packaging or instructions and had to scramble. But, we got lots of very positive feedback from happy customers who bought NY Chests and that felt great!
Drift Studio and the Riff System officially debuted in June at Dwell on Design 2012 in Los Angeles. It went pretty darn well and we made our way into a bunch of design blogs, magazines, and newspapers. Thank you dwell!
Why the KICKSTARTER campaign?
With the system developed and in production, we're focusing our efforts on adding more design choices, and of course starting to sell.
We want to add more maps to our printed furniture offering... People have responded very positively to our NY and Los Angeles maps, and we've had many requests for other cities.
With the money we raise from our KICKSTARTER campaign we are going to acquire map data for 20+ major cities around the globe and buy some really great cartography software so we can manipulate the map data into good looking prints. Once we have the maps created we're going to build a tool for our website that will allow you to easily put the map of your choice on one of many furniture forms. Of course you can still choose from our other patterns as well.
The initial design work for this project has been sketched out and we are going to be collaborating with a great development team we've worked with in the past, called the Junto. They are ready to start the project as soon as we get funding and we expect to be completed in 6-8 weeks.
We're excited about this product and the prospect of interactive experiences around design in general. So far people seem to really like our Riff System and those who have bought it are happy with their purchase. Hopefully with your help we can really get this thing off the ground and make quality products that give you a design voice.
There is creativity in all of us and it feels good to use it!

What Do I get for my Donation?
If we get funded, we will be able to create maps of 20+ cities. You choose your favorite and we will put it on a piece of furniture for you, As a special bonus for our Kickstarter friends, each piece will have a subtle watermark embedded into the map that will commemorate that this piece is one of a limited edition only made for those who donated to our Kickstarter campaign. Of course, you will also have our sincere gratitude for supporting us as we build our business and try and do some good.

A large custom piece or combination of pieces tailored to your needs and space. We will work with you to design a form that fits your space, then work with you to design the look and feel and even do some custom prints or patterns. Maybe a room divider accessible from both sides with some openings that peek through, or a retail display for your business? Perhaps a custom graphic that spreads across the entire piece like a mosaic? Could be a map of your choosing that spans the piece or a stylized landscape or something edgy like graffiti...your branding for a business setting? A mosaic can spread across doors as well as turn inside open cabinets and move across the cabinet backs. We will base this on our retail pricing and the custom design is a bonus.
