Hello from Bare Theatre,
We received official numbers from Historic Stagville on Let Them Be Heard today, and they are pretty amazing, to say the least!
We were hoping to get about 120 - 130 audience members through the four performances on June 9. The Stagville volunteers did a great job of accommodating the extra people that showed up wanted to see the show, and we ended up with a total head count of over 160, 180 counting the volunteers that accompanied our tours!
Not only that, but Let Them Be Heard raised $1,850 for Historic Stagville! 100% of ticket sales went to Stagville to help fund their preservation work for this important state site.
So, your donation helped Bare Theatre create an innovative new work based on North Carolina history and the slave experience in America, AND it also drew crowds well beyond our expectations, AND it raised a significant amount of money for Historic Stagville!
I love it when fundraising creates this type of multiplier effect. All total, we raised over $3,200 for two very good causes and raised awareness about Stagville and the Slave Narrative Project. That is truly something to be proud of!
Let Them Be Heard continues - we have recorded audio of all of the actors performing the narratives, and we are in the final stages of production on CD's. Those will be shipping out in August.
Thank you again for making this all possible. Your support has gone a long way with this project!
