About this project
FailureBank: Fail. Learn. Grow. Succeed.
When presented with the thought of the necessity failing before succeeding, many people will bristle, scoff, or get confused. They’ll think, “What? Me, fail? Never.”
This mindset – that failure isn’t an option – is a product of the society we were raised in. Our society taught us that failure is something to fear, something to avoid because it’s inherently bad.
Unfortunately, those lessons are wrong: failure isn’t something to fear, it’s an experience to harness and learn from.
So, what exactly is FailureBank?
No matter what arena you find yourself in – whether you’re an entrepreneur, fully entrenched in the corporate world, or even still a student – FailureBank can help you overcome and learn from your failures on your path to success.
We’re building an online platform to help people like you visualize, conceptualize, and internalize the failures you experience. This visually engaging process will help you “track your path” to success, enabling you to identify exactly when, where, and how failures arose over a certain time period (whether that’s 2 months or 2 years). With tools built in to help you extract meaning from your experiences, FailureBank is sure to help you bounce back from your failures before they compound and turn into a tragedy – something that can’t be fixed.
In this, FailureBank will begin to erase the negative connotation associated with failure. And as the FailureBank community redefines what failure means – a universal experience to learn from, not to fear – we’ll accelerate success not only for ourselves, but our country as a whole.
Why did we choose to start our project on Kickstarter?
Change of any kind requires support, a group of individuals coming together for a common purpose. While we could have raised funds in other manners, we wouldn't have had the same opportunity elsewhere to plug into a supportive community of open-minded people. The social nature of this site allows us to interact with the people who believe as much as we do that the perception of failure needs to change if we, as a society, are going to move forward. Our success relies on the support of others, and if we're able to succeed here, we'll have proof that our society is ready to embrace (and learn from) failure.
Donations of any size will come together to make this a reality...we greatly appreciate your support!
What is the timeline?
The framework of FailureBank has been created. Our next step is to engage in in-depth research and consult with experts to fill in the important details, which will then be followed by coding and development. As this is a volatile process, we can't guarantee deadlines; however, we hope to launch the platform by June 2012.
Do you believe in the ideals of FailureBank and want to help? Here’s how:
1. Back us!
Making a donation through Kickstarter is simple – just click the green “Back this Project” button at the top of the project page and input your pledge/reward level. All you need is a Kickstarter account and an Amazon.com account and you’re set! Make sure the Amazon checkout progress is fully complete – otherwise your donation won’t be recorded and we might not reach our goal.
Remember, the Kickstarter model is “all or nothing,” so we have to fully reach our goal before we can get started on this project.
2. Let others know about us!
Like us on Facebook, share our project page with your friends, tweet about our project and our progress (@FailureBank), and once we’re able to send them out, wear the t-shirt and display the stickers! The long-term success of this project relies on the community and excitement that builds around this effort…and that all starts with you and your network.
Thanks for backing us and believing in this project – we couldn’t do it without your support!

The FailureBank team brings together a unique mix of proven entrepreneurial experience and young talent. This project has been nothing more than an idea for quite some time, but we think society’s current climate presents the perfect opportunity to bring FailureBank out in the open and get people to rally behind this shift in perception. More importantly, we’re confident that with our experience, passion, and Kickstarter as a springboard, we can make this vision a reality.
