Update #2: Intensive Rehearsals

We are gearing up for a week of intensive rehearsals in Maryland! Howard Community College has graciously donated their space for us to rehearse 40 hours next week!!!!! We will be updating our video and posting updates shortly after the week is over! I am really excited about all of our amazing collaborators and the work that will come out of this week of intensive rehearsals!!!!!

Emily Berry is the Artistic Director of B3W, which has performed in the US, England and Mexico. Dance writer Eva Yaa Asantewaa wrote, “Skin boasted intelligent and strong performances by these women – one white, one black – who literally grappled with each other while confronting urgent questions of racial identity and common humanity. Watch for future work by Emily Berry and her Beyond Third Wave dance troupe." (©2006, Eva Yaa Asantewaa, Sept. 2006, http://home.mindspring.com/~magickal1). In New York City, B3W has performed at Henry Street Settlement, Dance New Amsterdam (American Dance Guild Festival and CT meets NY Festival), Dixon Place (Crossing Boundaries and the Hot Festival), BAAD! (Blaktino Festival and BAAD! Ass Women Festival), the 92nd Street Y (Fridays at Noon Series), the RAW Studio Showings with DanceNOW, the International Dance Festival NYC, the DUMBO Dance Festival, the Manhattan Movement Arts Center, and the Cool New York Dance Festival. The company has also premiered two dance films in Maryland and in Switzerland.

Emily has performed with Boris Willis Moves, Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh & Company, Restless Native Dance/Tamieca McCloud, Milvia Pacheco Dance, Michele Dunleavy, Lesole’s Dance Project, and Ashe Moyubba/Alafia Afro-Cuban Folkloric Dance Ensemble.

Emily is a Certified Movement Analyst. She also has a MFA in dance from George Mason University and a Bachelor of Dance Arts from the University of Michigan. She has taught at Oakland University, George Mason University, Marymount University, Coppin State University, Montgomery College, and the Community College of Baltimore County. She has also taught master classes for ACDFA, Hunter College, Goucher College, the College of William and Mary, the University of Michigan, and numerous dance intensives. She has also recently been commissioned to set a piece on Ann Arbor Dance Works in May, 2010. She is currently an assistant professor of dance at Queensborough Community College.
