The Taiwanese duo Andy & Toto (who taught you about Asian Squat Toilets) need your help to make more hilarious cultural learning.
Asian Squat Toilets
About a week ago, the world was introduced to Andy & Toto in their video Asian Squat Toilets. Now the people who created the Andy & Toto show are all in different places on the globe and need your help to all come together again in order to make new episodes.
How Andy & Toto Came To Be
Andy, Toto, John (student 1) and I (student 2, and the man behind the camera) met in Taipei, Taiwan right at the end of 2010, and created the first Andy & Toto video, Taiwanese Dirty Words, by breaking into a classroom at NTUST, the university where Andy and Toto went to school and recorded everything the day before Ian went back to the states. When the video came out several months later, it was shared around campus and the duo became minor campus celebrities.
Fast forward a year later to the end of 2011, and Ian was back in Taiwan for one week. Andy and Toto had graduated and were living in two separate cities, but he got them together for one day to shoot the next video, Asian Squat Toilets. He finally had a chance to edit this short video in 2012 and posted it in the beginning of 2013, two years after they all first met.
Now the group wants to make another video, and with your help we can. For the next five months, Toto will be in Europe, Andy in Taiwan, and John and Ian in the US. But in July we will all be able to come together again.
Why We Need The Money
Since we are not all in the same country anymore, easily the biggest portion of the money would go towards flights so we can all be in the same place at the same time. Without that money it's hard to say how we would all end up together to make more videos. Also, there's only a limited amount of time in the year when we all can be together, so we would need to know in advance that it's possible and make arrangement accordingly.
What We Will Make
If we raise at least $5,000 we can continue the series in Taiwan with at least 3 brand new episodes. These episodes will be about Taiwanese culture, such as crazy food that is eaten and the crazy traffic and motorbikes. One episode will also contain a rap, all containing the same indelicate humor of the first two episodes. Most of the money will go to flights, lodging, and the rewards, and the more money we raise the more episodes we will be able to produce.
When Will It Be Finished
Right now we are all living in different very far-away cities. We hope to all meet up in the end of July or beginning of August to shoot the episodes. It will take several months to edit and release the videos on youtube, so you should receive your rewards by the end of the year.
About The Creators
Andy & Toto met at NTUST in Taipei, Taiwan. They both completed their degrees and Andy is putting his electrical engineering degree to use at a job an hour away from Taipei.
Toto will be in Austria for five months as an exchange student.
John, student #1, is working on his PhD at Carnegie Mellon studying Chinese electric automobiles.
Ian has been working in Iowa City at some random job so in his free time he can bring you his youtube series Follow The Foot.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The biggest challenge will be getting us all together again. Toto will be studying abroad in Europe. Andy is working in Taiwan. John is busy working on his PhD in Pittsburgh, PA. And Ian is working and making videos in Iowa City. We decided the best time to shoot wil be when Toto comes back from Europe, and John has some time off in the summer.
We have already created two episodes, which is enough to see what the series will be like. It's a very spontaneous show which can be difficult to plan out.
