SIEGE AT THE HIDEY HO' SALOON

Nix Western Comics (NWC) is a departure from the short story format of the flagship title Nix Comics Quarterly.  Whereas the quarterly is inspired by classic punk rock LPs in pace, the comparatively languid one story per issue format is taken from the tone of the great spaghetti westerns of the 60s and 70s.   Better yet, this comic will come with its own soundtrack!

The Story:
Johnny Skell is a bad man. A malicious gunsel with an eye for human weakness. He needs to be pried out of the local saloon and escorted out of the sleepy little town of New Stockholm.

Sheriff Earl Vance can lick his weight in rattlesnakes and shoot the horns off a buffalo nickel at 100 paces. Vance fears neither man nor gun. He's not scared of Skell.  He's seen worse.  He's been worse.

So why is Vance staring down the Saloon door instead of going inside to roust Skell?

The Music:
True to Nix Comics Artistic Statement, the artistic talent for Nix Western Comics #1 is drawn from the crossover pool of local musical talent.  Bob and Pete are prolific local musicians!  (Check out WHOA NELLIE! if you don't believe me!)

The two tracks of the records are Inspired by Link Wray (the only man who ever had an instrumental banned for being too lurid) as much as Ennio Morricone, the two instrumental tracks on the 7" record will put you in the proper mindset for a visit to the dusty little western berg of New Stockholm.

Don't wanna buy a pig in a poke?  Well, the video for this Kickstarter features a snippet of the A-side of the record: "Theme From Siege at the Hidey Ho Saloon."  Awesome, yeah? 

Writer’s Note:
The first record I can remember ever buying was also one of the first comic books. A Power Records reprint of the 1st issue of the Fantastic Four with a 7” record that provided a narration of the book. This purchase forever cemented the two forms of media as fellows in my young mind.  It seemed natural that the next step in the evolution of Nix Comics reunite the two mediums that have so long been a part of my life!

Happily, my partner creator on this project is Bob Ray Starker... One of the most exciting and excitable musicians in Columbus, OH. I told him about a my idea for a western comic that came with its own soundtrack of Ennio Morricone inspired spooky guitar music and he demanded to be on board!

About the Rewards:

Comic Only Version:  for $7, pledgers will receive the version of Nix Western comics #1 intended for release to Local Comic Shops (LCS).  The LCS version is exactly the story and art, but lacks the 7" record soundtrack.
