Granville Automatic: Mix the Record

We have recorded 10 songs in Nashville (thank you to everybody who gave to our first Kickstarter!), now the time has come to mix them! We are honored that Grammy-winning engineer Ryan Freeland (who mixed Ray LaMontagne's God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise) has offered to mix the album. We need $7500 to do this.

We have set our Kickstarter goal at $2500, which is enough to get started on a few songs.

Our hope is that we can raise the full $7500.

If we get REALLY lucky and raise more than that, the money will be used to fly us out there to be a part of the mixing. After that, any additional funds will go to mastering ($1000-$2500), artwork ($500) and duplication of the album ($1000).

FAQ

  • Ask most musicians, it's about $20,000 to make a great-sounding album. Mixing is the most important part of the record, and a good mixer is a great investment. We think we are getting a bargain.

  • Mixing is taking all of the recorded elements (drums, vocals, banjo, guitar, etc.) and blending them all together properly so they sound like perfectly-balanced, well-performed and well-written songs. At least we hope that's what happens!

  • Here's the list: Carolina Amen, Ghost of Traveller, The Groundskeeper, Copenhill, Gold Rush Town, Flying Mercury, Blood and Gold, House of Bourbon Part I and Part II, and Don't Come to Tennessee.

Exciting spoiler news: There will be three more songs produced and mixed by Ted Russell Kamp also on the record.

  • Yes, about the Galveston hurricane of 1900. She started it on a typewriter, but quickly switched to a computer.

  • Ah, we've asked ourselves that many times. The plan is to release a single a week beginning in January, with the full album (these 10 songs plus the 3 we're recording with Ted Kamp) out in the spring.
