About this project

Jack hammer is an action/comedy web series to be released during the winter of 2011, which encompasses 80's action movies, contemporary instant fame reality shows, hero-villain relationship and mainly a lot of love and nostalgia for simpler times with subtler movies.

About the show

Jack Hammer's plot circles Jack Hammer, a former espionage agent who turned into an action movie star, who fell for his hubris and pride at the peak of the his career three decades ago. Today, a rising dark force threatens Jack's former Agency: Actors and agents are disappearing and extravagantly costumed villains who look like Jack's old movies' masterminds are seen in broad day light. Jack is needed to confront his fears of fame and action in order to fulfill his destiny as an action hero and build his life back from the debris they are now.

About our vision and goals

Jack Hammer's themes will speak of having an inner identity in opposed of constantly changing and chasing the new. It will confront two modern characters we grew up on – the talented, vain hero and the self-built, hateful villain – in a postmodern world where instant heroes and villains are created, inverted and destroyed daily by the news and TV shows.

We see Jack Hammer as a challenge to the to the medium of web series – a hybrid between the 6-10 minutes-per-episode handicap of the web, and the deep character arcs, professional editing and exciting action sequences found usually only in movies. It will include an original soundtrack composed by Omer Rabinovitz, designed sets and costumes, and many, many eager extras.

We want Jack Hammer to include everything a good classic action movie had – character development, a not-overpowered hero who faces clever, organized villains, a conflict which symbolizes today's consensus values and kickass action scenes.

We want Jack Hammer to be make people laugh, to make them empathize the characters, to stay in their heads until the next episode and make them cry out for another season.

Why we need your support

As we hope you can see from the teaser, we can write a script, shoot a scene and manage the post production process well enough to make a series with a soundtrack, after-effects and a tight budget. But in order to make this series a great one, we need better equipment, props, sets, costumes, and all the other things money can buy. If you relate to the concept of the show, if you feel nostalgic and wish to combine old movies with new methods, or if you simply like what we did and want to see more, your donation will be a blessing. If not, we will still gladly receive your money. We are flexible like that.

We are a group of film and video students (and one Cognitive Sciences student) studying in Bezalel graduate school of arts, Jerusalem, Israel. We all share a deep fondness for cinema, tv and indie moviemaking, and have experience both from school and life in making short films.
For us, Jack Hammer is more than just a web series. As Willie Trumbon well puts it in The Neverhood, we are beings who have to create, because… We have to. We all love cinema very much, and participating, creating something which is ours, which we can think about and solve and brainstorm and build in our own image might be the epitome of such love.
This reason can also be shown in the themes of the show: all of today's film culture is based on nostalgia and fondness for what was once and can't stay buried. The theme of reality show vs. classic 80's action movies symbolize this situation, as today's cinema usually isn't creating anything new, only reviving the old (as in the classics) or reinventing itself frantically every day (as in the reality shows) until all meaning is striped.
We miss the olden days of heroes, villains, self-building and realistic character arcs, and wish to show them on screen again, confront them with today's insane marathon of short attention span and spiral of heroes-for-one-day, and see how we can create something new by combining the old and the present.
