About this project
My name is Li, and that picture is a section of my third screen print ever: the going away party poster. I am an artist and designer interested in exploring the environmental and relational aspects of our society through my work, and am working on a few interesting projects during the colder months.
This winter I intend to first return to Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Vermont for two weeks to take classes called Urban Regeneration and Sustainable Communities of the Future. Then I will take what I've learned and apply it to my senior project in New Orleans. The core of the project will be working with lowernine.org whose mission is to rebuild the community of the lower ninth ward both literally and figuratively. I will actively be building, sewing an organic community garden, enabling youth empowerment, and envisioning sustainable economic development specific to that neighborhood. I will also be working with Rose Architectural Fellow and Tulane Assistant Professor Carey Clouse, who does design work for Providence Community Housing in New Orleans with the vision of making low income housing environmentally sustainable. In a second project, I will be collaborating with artist Meg Turner whose screen prints of historic buildings are remarkable. Meg and I are going to teach each other everything we know about architecturally rendering, and spend time with each other drawing buildings, construction sites, each other observing, and turning them into poster size prints. I will also be volunteering with the New Orleans Community Print Shop. Busy Busy Busy.
Right now I am just trying to raise the remainder of my Yestermorrow class fees ($83.50) and travel fees (to and from VT: $54; one way to New Orleans $118.15) to ensure the project does begin: a total of $255.65. Any additional funds raised toward the project will assist with project participation fees at Lower Nine ($50 a month), print supplies, print shop membership, room and board, as well as a return ticket to Providence which is where I most certainly call home. February is peak season in New Orleans, so I hope to find some work while I am down there; and financial aid for the spring term will give modest assistance by mid to late February. Still your contributions are deeply appreciated, and won't go unrewarded. Just look at all the cool stuff I will send you:
Starting at a pledge of only $2, you will get a postcard print to start off your new year!
The first 15 people to pledge $12 or more will get a special 8.5x11 print too!
The first 10 people to pledge $17 or more will get a copy of my cabaret dinner theatre going away party print!
a pledge of $35 or more will get a copy of my first poster size print made in New Orleans, in February.
a pledge of $65 or more will get you the first and second prints from New Orleans as they come out.
a pledge of $89 or more will get you the first, second, and third prints from New Orleans as they come out.
a pledge of $117 or more will get you prints 1-4 from New Orleans as they come out.
and a pledge of $141 or more will get you all five prints by no later that May 1st.
If you pledge the full amount of $255.65, I will send you all 5 prints, the postcard, any of the limited edition prints you qualify for, and a batch of cookies. Promise.
Prints will be available outside of fundraising, if you decide you'd like one post fundraising. I know we're all broke right now, but ever little bit counts!
Many thanks and Love,
Li

Li Pallas is a Low Tech Interaction Designer and Narrative Installation Artist in Washington, DC. Her work involves researching and channeling methods of graphic, landscape, and interior design through mediums of silk screen or sculptural installations to achieve miniutopias of increased social activity, empathy, and sustainable communities. She enjoys crossing storytelling with journalism and constructing optimistic metaphors in both visual and and written languages. When possible she prefers to insert herself into the piece: collecting stories, drawings, and mapping the interactions people have.
She is in constant awe of tiny things that move such as subatomic particles, insects and kittens. She is fond of handmade elements and chocolate. She is a facilitator, a graphic designer, a farmer, and a book artist. She also just makes prints.
