Update #19: An open letter to AVF’s Kickstarter Family
An open letter to AVF’s Kickstarter Family
With a heart felt apology, my eyes have been bigger that my belly!
AVF did not have a grand opening....yet.
In hindsight, I should have sent out an email or message of some kind to all of you who, so generously, have supported Atwater Village Farm that we were having a “soft” opening and that the Grand opening would happen in a few months. It all happened so fast and the day to day has been incredibly overwhelming (in the best way imaginable), we just opened the doors on Friday December 16th, 2011 as if it were just any old day.... Which is no excuse for not communicating with my Kickstarted Family.
Admittedly, I had some grand plans for AVF at the time the video was made and the Kickstarter project was launched. With the money made from Kickstarter, I was able to get quite a bit done, but not all that I had set out to do. Team AVF and I are laying a foundation to grow on, the Juice/ Coffee bar is being designed and pricing for the cost of build out is being done.
Now that we have hit the one month mark and the day to day is getting smoother I am able to spend some time on fulfillment of the incentives promised.
I am currently working on the invite for the Grand Opening Party which will be in March.
Patrick (AVF Store Manager) is working on content for Le Potager and the Calander of events for the coming year. Additionally, we are working on organizing Weekly Harvest Baskets, Juice Boxes, and in store promotions. Mark, AVF’s Office Manager as well as Patrick and myself are the Staff at Atwater Village Farm. The three of us are committed, at the same time, we must be realistic about what the “Manpower” of 3 people can be.
This process has been a beautiful experience that I cannot describe in any other words than~
The gift of what the Kickstarter Family has given, out weighs money. Every penny counted, but each person cheered me on and spoke out to me confirming that I was doing was the greatest good for the greatest amount of people. For this I am honored and grateful.
Sincerely,
Piper Goldstein

Update #15: So close and yet so far....
So close & yet so far...... We've been pushing SO hard the last couple months to try and get our store open for y'all before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately due to some pipes in the building deciding to call it quits it's not going to happen. We're delayed for at least a few weeks. Last month, we lost water pressure and then discovered some corroded water pipes that haven't seen the light of day in almost 50 years. Now the plumbers have the walls open upstairs and downstairs and are in the process of replacing just about all the pipes in the back of our store! Once that's all fixed we have to get the health department back in here to sign off on all the work. Then we can start getting the food onto the shelves. Anyway we'll keep you updated on our progress. We thank everyone for your patience, and continued support. Trust that we are working as hard as we can to get these doors open ASAP!!

Piper Goldstein was born and raised in Los Angeles. She grew up in a family that values extraordinary customer service. Through the generations, family members have owned breweries, grocery stores, night clubs and beauty salons. Family members have reputations for going the extra mile, building relationships and loyalty among clients.
Piper began her Culinary Education in 1991 at the Los Angeles International Culinary Institute. She earned her Certificate of Completion in Culinary Directives under the guidance of Master Chef Raymond Hoffmeister, one of only 47 Master Chefs in the United States. She embarked upon a career in food service and hospitality working her way successfully through the ranks to a level of proficiency in both culinary and management skills. She developed her skills working with Los Angeles based chefs including Neil Fraser, (Grace, BLD) Fred Eric (VIDA, Fred62) and Octavio Bacerra (The Patina Group).
Also working for Culinary Underground as a private chef on tour with bands including but not limited to the Beastie Boys, Black Eyed Peas, DEVO and the Foo Fighters. She coordinated menus, set up dining rooms on the road, and arranged for all the "special needs" of band and tour members. This experience allowed her to develop a keen sense of resourcefulness, and the ability to quickly think on her feet.
Food and customer service are her passion and it has been a life long dream of hers to establish a community "corner store." She is driven, focused and enthusiastic.
