About this project

Atwater Village Farm Market believes that:

NEIGHBORHOOD = COMMUNITY = CITY = ENVIRONMENT

Our market will evolve into a community-meeting place.  Choices at Atwater Village Farm will allow for a healthy lifestyle to be sustained or developed through our love of sharing knowledge.  We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to purchase fresh, organic local produce at an affordable price.

The Slow Food Movement combined with local, organic and sustainable food philosophies and the ever-increasing presence of farmers market shopping is booming across the country.  Consumers are looking for high quality products combined with a local shopping experience.  Atwater Village Farm’s alliances with local farmers, artisans and affordable gourmet pre-packaged food providers will provide the sophisticated, educated consumer with convenience, quality and value.

Atwater Village is a small community beside the LA River in Northeast Los Angeles. The corners of our streets used to be populated with small markets which were not only a place to get your groceries but where you met your neighbors. Over the years these markets have all but disappeared. We aim to bring back this vital part of the of local landscape.

Funds recieved via Kickstarter will go to the following:

Building up our market and establishing our place in the community: Construction to the market space, purchase refridgeration, food storage, and preparation equipment, licensing and legal fees. We also want to be a hub of the community, and will be starting programs with our schools, and community groups to teach, and support local farming, eating locally, and seasonally.

Piper Goldstein was born and raised in Los Angeles. She grew up in a family that values extraordinary customer service. Through the generations, family members have owned breweries, grocery stores, night clubs and beauty salons. Family members have reputations for going the extra mile, building relationships and loyalty among clients.

Piper began her Culinary Education in 1991 at the Los Angeles International Culinary Institute. She earned her Certificate of Completion in Culinary Directives under the guidance of Master Chef Raymond Hoffmeister, one of only 47 Master Chefs in the United States. She embarked upon a career in food service and hospitality working her way successfully through the ranks to a level of proficiency in both culinary and management skills. She developed her skills working with Los Angeles based chefs including Neil Fraser, (Grace, BLD) Fred Eric (VIDA, Fred62) and Octavio Bacerra (The Patina Group).

Also working for Culinary Underground as a private chef on tour with bands including but not limited to the Beastie Boys, Black Eyed Peas, DEVO and the Foo Fighters. She coordinated menus, set up dining rooms on the road, and arranged for all the "special needs" of band and tour members. This experience allowed her to develop a keen sense of resourcefulness, and the ability to quickly think on her feet.

Food and customer service are her passion and it has been a life long dream of hers to establish a community "corner store." She is driven, focused and enthusiastic.
