A story-driven tactical roleplaying game with a touch of strategic resource management and a pinch of choose-your-own-adventure.
We've signed our project up to Kicking It Forward, meaning once our game is done and released, 5% of all profits will be pledged to new Kickstarter projects.
Update #1: DRM free versions
DRM free version of Expeditions: Conquistador will be available.
Updates #2 and #3: Let's Play Expeditions: Conquistador!
We're really excited about all the money we've managed to raise in the first week of our Kickstarter. As requested, we've recorded two battles from the game with Let's Play style commentary by our game designer. Watch the first video in update 2 and the second and third videos in update 3.
Update #7: World Map Preview
Following the first three videos, you ungrateful bastards (just kidding, we love you) demanded a walkthrough of the world map part of the game. Your wish is our command! Please find the new video in update 7.
Mac and Linux versions
There's a couple of things we just want to make clear here as well, which has come up in the discussions with you over the past few weeks: there will definitely be a Mac version and a Linux version of the game (we've already built and tested it, it works fine, and we'll be doing the same as soon as Unity 4 is released with Linux support).
Also, we've decided to give a digital version of the leather map (well it won't be leather of course, but you get the idea) to anybody who pledges $30 or more, and a digital version of the diary to anybody who pledges $50 or more. And to reiterate: the questline associated with the diary will be available to everybody.
Expeditions: Conquistador is a tactical roleplaying game with a touch of strategic resource management and a pinch of choose-your-own-adventure. Conquistador is set in a rarely visited part of history which is rife with mystery, political intrigue, and good old-fashioned violence.
You will take on the role of a Spanish Conquistador in Central America in 1518-1520. Select the members of your expedition and explore campaign maps based on the actual topological maps of Hispaniola and Mexico. Through intricately branching dialogue, you will engage with the characters and situations that you encounter across these uncharted areas, and when it’s time to spill blood, a tactical combat system of great depth and brutality will let you control your individual troops in battle.
Combat is intimate and detailed, and failure has great consequences. Every expedition member has a face, a past, a set of personality traits, and of course a combat role - their morale will change depending on your decisions, they will chime in when you're weighing your options, and if they fall in battle, their injuries will carry over to the world map, where they must be treated by your doctors until they're back on their feet. Should you fail to treat your expedition members, they will die and be gone for good.
Choice and consequence is central to the play experience of Conquistador. As the leader of the expedition, you will face difficult decisions about the use of your troops and your resources, as well as how to engage with the factions of the savage New World. Will you defy history and be a diplomatic envoy of peace? Or will you be a ruthless conqueror determined to lay all of the Aztec Empire at your feet?
• Engaging and intricately branching storyline with difficult decisions and long-term consequences.
• A gallery of unique expedition members who chime in during events & conversations and react to your decisions - pay attention to their morale or you may have to deal with mutiny!
• Random events that throw you into danger, present unexpected opportunities, and build relationships with the members of your expedition.
• High replayability - dynamic endings reflect decisions you've made throughout the story, how much gold you bring with you back to Spain, and how many expedition members you've lost (or gained!) along the way.
• Detailed and tactical combat - make use of flanking, traps & barricades, attacks of opportunity, interrupts, cover & concealment, character abilities, and more.
• Character management - unlock special abilities by promoting your expedition members, assign equipment to your troops, and treat injured or sick characters with a triage system.
• Dynamic trading system - barter with different merchants and buy & sell resources based on local market conditions.
• Campaign maps based on actual topological maps of the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

Conquistador is a project of passion - all of us at Logic Artists grew up playing the classic roleplaying games of the 90's, and above all we want to make a game that recaptures that style and feel. For the last six months we've been plugging away at making Conquistador the kind of deep and engaging experience that we want it to be, but we're going to need your help to make it across the finish line.
We've already completed all our core game systems (dialog, combat, world navigation, trading, party management) and finished the first of our two planned campaigns. We're really excited with how the game is coming together and are looking forward to expanding what we've come up with into a full-fledged experience.
Your contribution will help us do that: each dollar will let us add more story content to our game world, depth to our combat & trade systems, and polish to our presentation. It will also let us complete our second, much larger campaign where you will travel the breadth of the Aztec empire.
We want to make Conquistador a game that you can sink your teeth into; one that rewards the time you put into it and challenges you on an intellectual level. We want to be able to set you free in our world and trust you to pick your own way through it. We want to be able to let our game punish you when you make poor decisions, and reward you when you make wise ones.
If all this sounds like the kind of game you'd like to play, then please make a pledge and tell others about us. If you do, we'll make it happen.
Logic Artists is an independent game studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark. We're passionate about roleplaying games - the computer-RPG variety as well as tabletop roleplaying and live-action roleplaying. Expeditions: Conquistador started its life as a PC demo, but was turned into a Windows Phone 7 game due to lack of resources. The mobile version has received excellent reviews and a reasonable amount of downloads. With this game, we aim to stick to our roots as PC gamers and PC developers.
Our office in Copenhagen currently houses the following people:
Additionally, Logic Artists employs contractors in Chile, Norway, Turkey, and exotic England for music, sound design, art, and animation.

Definitely. We’re using the Unity engine, and it has seamless support for Mac, we’re basically developing for Mac and Windows at the same time. We even have a Mac in the office to test our Mac builds on.
Unity 4 is slated to have Linux support, and we’ve already pre-ordered a Unity 4 Pro license. We really love the Linux community, and once Unity 4 is out, we’ll start testing a Linux build of the game as well.
Yes, we're very glad to announce that there'll be a DRM free version of Expeditions: Conquistador for $15 Reward tier and higher.
What? Of course! What kind of people do you think we are?
Will the boxed version of Expeditions: Conquistador activate on Steam or another digital distribution platform?
We haven’t spoken to any particular distribution platforms yet, so we really can’t answer that question at present. It’s probably best to assume that the answer is no, just so you can’t be disappointed.
We’re currently developing with Unity 3.5, but once Unity 4 is out, we’re upgrading to that – we’ve already preordered an engine license. We’re also using some tools that we’ve made ourselves, most notably our Event Editor. If things go well, we’d love to make this editor publically available once the game is released.
We’d love to go for full EFIGS (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish) localization, but it depends on how much money we get. Expeditions: Conquistador has a rather large amount of text in it, and translating all those words to four other languages will be expensive.
That’s not a question! Listen, we’re not fans of exclusive content either, but we have to show our appreciation for the people who pledge to our Kickstarter – you’re investing your money in an unfinished project, and it’s only fair that you have something to show for your faith in us. Rest assured that all of Esteban’s narrative content will still be available to you even if you won’t be able to use him in combat. We haven’t entirely decided what the exclusive item is going to be, but we’re happy to get your input on what sort of content you wouldn’t mind doing without.
Pardon the poor phrasing but the quest is not Kickstarter-exclusive. The diary that you get if you donate $250 or more will merely shed some light on a questline which will be available to everybody. If you don’t donate $250 or more, you won’t miss out on the quest, you’ll just not have the same background knowledge.
Actually, some sources indicate that there were (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar%C3%ADa_Estrada), but it doesn’t matter – you can play a man if you want, and you can fill your entire expedition with men and never allow a woman to join, if you prefer historically accurate sexism. We want to give that choice to you, however, instead of making it for you.
