Back From Gamescom and WOAH 20,000!

Update #5 · Aug 21, 2012 · 8 comments

It's been quite the week at Gamescom and we had a blast, but now we're happy to be back in the office to share our experiences with the rest of the team. We expected the pledges to start slowing down a bit while we were away, but they should pick up again as people get home from Cologne and check out our Kickstarter. We're really happy to see that we've reached $20,000 in pledges despite our dirge of PR! You're all fantastic and generous people, and we consider it a privilege to be developing games for you :D

At Gamescom, it was a lot of fun to meet so many people who were interested in our game, and we got a strong sense that you all enjoyed our combat system a lot and saw the potential of our metagame as well. Watching people's astonished facial expressions when we reveal that all of that was the result of just 4 months of work will never really get old!

Believe it or not, watching you all play at Gamescom was our first serious playtest. As such, we returned from Germany with a stack of papers covered in notes about things to fix, improve, or add. Fortunately almost all of these things were spotted by us, and most visitors of our stand had a smooth and bug-free experience. If you're interested, you can read more about some of the changes that we're going to make as a result of this testing over on our Development Blog.

We brought two thousand fliers to Germany with links to this Kickstarter as well as 50 USB sticks with the build for the press, a readme, our trailer, and a press release. We have around 200 fliers and 3 USB sticks left. We've also started sending the press build out to all news outlets that might be interested, and we'll keep doing that throughout this week, which should result in more coverage and a boost in pledges. The next order of business is to make a new video for you guys showing how the world map part of the game looks and plays.

Of course the world map is scheduled to undergo quite a few changes, but we still think we can give you a good idea of how the metagame works. Keep checking in for more information, and please help us spread the word in any way you can :-)

Tchüss!

Will there be any native followers? I'm thinking of the deal the Spanish made with the Tlaxcaltecas to destroy the Mexica empire, so maybe that could be an interesting plot point as well as interesting tactics! :)

Logic Artists: Wow, I didn't knew Assassin's Creed has a copyright on making an area of a map gray and on the name "Time Simulator". I better watch out or they own the act of breathing and we must all die.

keenriser: God damnit, I should've paid more attention in German class in high school.

Darklord: it's not a Fleur de Lys, it's the Aztec symbol for "flower" which oddly does look quite similar to the Fleur de Lys. It's our current event icon, but in the future we aim to have events represented by characters, buildings, and other relevant objects instead, though probably still with that icon hovering above them (slightly smaller).

ThomasN: Don't want to get sued by the Assassin's Creed team!

Yeah change your cursor to show impassable.

About the non-visit-able areas on the map: You could display them in black-and-white with "Time Simulator has insufficient data" when you try to move the mouse over it.... Or something :-)

The Development blog is an interesting read, also nice to see the map with cavalier! Is that a French Fleur de Lys I spy in the jungle?

Tschüss! (but phonetically close enough anyway). I'm sad I didn't make it to Cologne, but I'm sure I'll get to play the game when it's done then :)
