Update #5: last call....
hi friends! just giving one final notice about the portrait project before the kickstarter page is kaput. i didn't make my goal on kickstarter so none of your transactions will go through and the page will be disappearing in less than 24 hours, but i' m now hosting the same deal at:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/ohyesverynice
id be so happy if you made the same transaction over there that you did on kickstarter (etsy isn't pledge-based so now its a direct transaction and your portraits are guaranteed), and, as always, i'd really appreciate it if you would spread the word.
thanks so much!

Update #4: The Portrait Project is now an Etsy Shop
Hi everybody!
Thanks so much for supporting the Portrait Project! Unfortunately, there's pretty much no chance that I'll make my goal and all of our transactions will be voided (so you get your money back). The good new is that the Portrait Project is now an Etsy shop, so you can get the same exact deal at:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/ohyesverynice
And it's now a direct transaction rather than a bid and wait-and-see type of deal. I'd be thrilled if even half of you made the same purchase there that you did here. I'm still figuring out the mechanics of Etsy, so if you want something that you don't see on there or have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at ohyesverynice@gmail.com
Some of you contacted me with to let me know that you need your portraits by a specific date. Again, please let me know if you have questions or concerns about this and I should be able to accommodate. People trying to meet birthday or father's day deadlines will be given priority and I am trusting all of you not to fib about when you need your portraits. The first portraits completed will tentatively be sent out the first few days of June.
Thanks to all of you for your support and to the wonderful staff at Kickstarter. They've been tremendously helpful and responsive and are being very generous and accommodating about letting me promote the Etsy shop here. I encourage all of you to pitch Kickstarter projects of your own and will advise you from experience to think very carefully about your project minimum and how long your bidding term will be.
Thanks very much! Hope to see you on Etsy!
Your pal,

Update #3: added incentive!
hi friends!
thanks so much for supporting the portrait project! i'm still a long way away from my goal and there's not a lot of time left, which means that i need your help to spread the word! since you've got better things to do than promote my project all day, i've created an incentive to make it worth your while...
if your endorsement convinces a new backer to support the portrait project, have them notify me about it when they pledge. all identified endorsers will receive, along with their portraits, a free original bonus drawing of two adorable animals who are friends. that's just my way of saying thanks!
do it for the animals!
Update #2: an error!
oh no! i just now noticed that the $10 pledge says 6X9, when it's supposed to say 4X6. it's only fair at this point that $10 portraits can be either size now, but please note for the higher bid amounts that when it says 4X6, it is referring to the $10 portrait specifications... (i.e. for $50 you can get one $50 portrait or five of the $10 ones...)
Update #1: how to get your portraits/FAQ
thanks so much for the support, everybody! please spread the word so i can reach my goal! remember, if the goal isn't met, all transactions are automatically voided! ive been getting a few messages about when/how to get me the pictures, so i thought id provide a quick faq post.
1) PLEASE don't send me pictures until the pledge drive is over. at that time, if the goal is met, i will contact every one of you to sort out your portraits. ill be creating a special gmail account just for this project so i can keep track of everyone and make sure you get exactly what you want.
2) when the time comes, you can get your portraits to me any way you want. you can e-mail them to me at the forthcoming gmail address, you can mail me physical copies, send me a flickr link, or you can use whatever other method you'd prefer. again, once the drive is over, i will be in touch and happy to accommodate whatever means you'd prefer to complete our transaction.
3) if you spent $100 but youd rather have two of the $50 option than one of the $100 option, that is totally fine. as long as the total is correct, you can get whatever combination of options you want. for example, $100 can get you the $100 option, or five of the $10 option plus two of the $50 option. You could also get six of the $10 option plus two of the $20 option, or any other combination totaling $100 that you prefer. you will get what you paid for in whatever form you prefer.
its very important to me that everyone who participates in this project is happy with the outcome. please feel free to contact me with any other questions you have. also, please spread the word! we're doing pretty well so far but we've got a lofty goal and not a lot of time, so it's very important to let as many people as possible know about this project!
thanks!

Funding Unsuccessful
This project reached the deadline without achieving its funding goal on May 17, 2010.
Pledge $10 or more Pledge $10 or more
Ten dollars gets you a head-and-shoulders brush-and-ink portrait (no backgrounds) on a 6X9 card. It doesn't have to be you~send me a picture of whoever you want and I will draw it and send it to you! If the photo has a background i will simply leave it out. You can get as many of these as you want for $10 each.
Pledge $20 or more Pledge $20 or more
Twenty dollars gets you two 4X6 portraits or a single 6X9 illustration of an image of up to 2 subjects, no longer limited to headshots, plus a background.
Pledge $50 or more Pledge $50 or more
For fifty dollars you can get five 4X6 portraits or a single 9X12 image of up to 5 subjects plus a background.
Pledge $100 or more Pledge $100 or more
One hundred dollars get you ten 4X6 portraits or a single 12X15 image of whatever you want. At this point, you can take creative license. For example, you can have your portrait drawn with Wayne Newton by sending me separate photos of you and Wayne Newton that i will composite into one image. If your family has always wanted to visit Hawaii but never made it, send me photos of each of your family members, plus the location where you'd like to visit, and I will make your dream come true (in illustrated form only). The possibilities are endless!
Pledge $200 or more Pledge $200 or more
For $200, you can get twenty 4X6 portraits or one life-size portrait on a poster sheet. This will require a lot of reference images and some specifications on your part.
