Jahn Sood & Max Mamon are producing their first Off-Broadway production as a writing team at the Strawberry One-Act Festival.

Lyricist-Librettist Jahn Sood and Composer Max Mamon met while studying musical theater writing at NYU Tisch. As we come from extremely different aesthetic places, we were surprised be assigned to work together on our major projects.  While Jahn grew up writing folk songs, Max was writing opera.  While Jahn was touring with rock bands, Max was playing piano concerti. Quickly we discovered that below the surface we connect on the real longings and desires of our characters and strong ideas about what makes great art.  We find great songs and eventually great theater come from our collaboration because we are creating for the same reasons while constantly challenging each other to make new work and better work.  Vital Signs is certainly an example of a piece in which our distinct voices come together into one.

Vital Signs was first written in the Spring of 2011 and received a reading at NYU, directed by Saheem Ali and featuring actors: Holly Hylton, Julia Burrows and Mykal Kilgore. We then did readings at the Duplex Cabaret Theater and Culture Hub Studios in New York. The Culture Hub performance was simulcast on a sound stage at Seoul Institute of the Arts in Korea

Since then, Jahn and Max have continued to grow as songwriters and dramatists and completed a draft of a full length show With You Always, which also received a reading at NYU directed by Saheem Ali.

Now the creative team is reassembled for the first-ever full production of a Mamon & Sood musical.

With your help, Vital Signs will be produced in the Strawberry One-Act Festival on stage at the Off-Broadway: Theater at St. Clements on 46th St.

How will we do it?

The beautiful stage is provided by the Riant Theater’s Strawberry One-Act Festival and the Theater at St Clements, but it is up to us to produce the show. We have assembled an incredible creative team:

Director Saheem Ali
Music Director Yan Li
Actors Holly Hylton, Julia Burrows and Jonny Atkinson
Lighting Designer Alana Jacoby
Stage Manager Lisa Klages

Our rehearsals are scheduled; the curtain is set to go up on August 4th.

Now we need to raise the money in time for rehearsals to start and keep this incredible team on board.

Our goal: Two Weeks, $1500--- to pay the performers and creative team and build the necessary props and effects to make the magic happen.
