Update #14: Some great performance photos...
Thought you might be interested in some beautiful photos taken by photographer Jay Reiter. I think he did a great job capturing the magic!

For those of you who weren't able to pick up a poster and DVD at a performance last weekend, I will work out a way to either mail or otherwise deliver to you after the new year. Let me know if you or someone you know will be in the area and I can deliver in person!
Hope you all have great holidays!!!

Update #9: Holiday dance pick in the Globe!
Clara's Dream is on the radar. Some great press is coming up and she's been picked as a go to holiday event in the Boston Globe. Good for her!

Spread the word!
Thank you, my friends and supporters!
Update #8: Time's flying!
The momentum is building and there is much to do, but I am seeing the production come together and am excited. I actually love rehearsing, could be my favorite part of the process. All the administrative duties are a little stressful...not complaining, it goes with the territory!
Tell your friends and family!
It's going to be a great show!

Update #7: 55% There
Rehearsals are going well with our crackerjack cast. Diverse, intergenerational and very talented!
We are getting serious costume support from Ann Carnaby of Tracy Theatre Originals; artist accommodations from Sheraton Harborside Portsmouth; and rehearsal space from Seacoast Repertory Theater and the Dance Inn in Lexington. Thanks Thelma!!!
I am genuinely touched by all the pledges of support to help get this production back on her feet! You are all so dear to jump on the bandwagon, particularly during these rocky economic times. Producing a project like this, even in the swell times, is monumental at best. So again, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

Update #6: Gettin' There
Good day working on costumes with our own Tina and Ann Carnaby of Tracy Theatre Originals (what a gift!). Also got some time in with our intrepid director Gen Aichele.
And of course trying to get those steps down (sans tap shoes, slippery floor!)
Big thanks to Cary for studio.

Update #5: Another great weekend of rehearsals!
We have a lot of great new cast members and are creating a lot of fun twists and turns. Here is a clip of a scene we're working on. Imagine a big, full moon, a street lamp, and a group of street urchins jamming...a Salvation Army band in the distance.
This is such a joyous process!
Stay tuned!

Update #4: Day 4 of rehearsals
Have made a lot of progress (as GW used to say). Most ensemble material tackled and conquered...
I'm really pleased and love this process!
Here is a little snippet from our work yesterday, honoring tradition...
Update #3: First day of rehearsal!
Getting our feet wet with old and new cast members. It was a blast! This a a bit of the challenge between classical and jazz....
Update #2: Off and running!
The show is cast and rehearsals start this weekend! I'm excited!
Update #1: We're on our way!
This is one of my favorite parts of producing a project- when things start clicking! We held auditions last weekend in Boston and had a really beautiful, talented, versatile group of dancers show up. Difficult choices are being made...
Our entourage included our director Gen Aichele founder and director of the NH theatre Project; our production/stage manager Zhana Morris, also production manager at the Music Hall; my right and left hands, dancers Christine Hounsell and Heidi Hanson; the esteemed tap legend and friend Dean Diggins; Dance Inn director Thelma Goldberg; and my other right hand Kathy Lombard!
What a great crew!
AND a shout out to Kathy L for mentioning, in passing, "hey, I heard about this website called Kickstarter?" Man, this place is genius! I just launched the project yesterday , and BAM! here is our first pledge. WOW. Cary Mabley is an angel. Take a bow! Spread the word!
Lots more to come....

I had a question on the pledges. For $5 or more the rehearsal video, photos & poster will these be of the current show in progress? I relize that the DVD is 2004 but doesn't say anything about the others. Thanks so much! So looking forward in seeing the show!

Connected as Drika Overton (602 friends)
I've been tap dancer, producer, choreographer and teacher for almost 30 years. Some of my production hits include The Portsmouth Percussive Dance Festival Sound of Movement concerts; Clara's Dream A Jazz Nutcracker (which toured the Northeast for 6 years and was re-mounted in 2009 after a successfully funded Kickstarter Project); Music Hall Follies: A Vaudeville in 9 Acts which featured Broadway and film actor Bill Irwin and tap dance legend Fayard Nicholas among many others; and Off The Beaten Path; A Jazz & Tap Odyssey commissioned by New England Presenters with support from the New England Foundation for the Arts.
This year I am producing a new holiday concert featuring acclaimed artists and longtime collaborators Brenda Bufalino, Josh Hilberman and Paul Arslanian and other phenomenal dancers and musicians.
I am currently on the Theatre Dance Department faculty of the Boston
Conservatory and am the founder and director of The Dance Hall in Kittery, Maine.

Fabulous, Drika. Thank you and Jay for sharing those fantastic photos!
I had a great time (LOVED all 3 shows) and will see you again, soon!
Merry, Merry and and Happy Healthy New Year.

Hi Drika,
I was so sad to miss the show (had tickets and everything) -- just too tired, too far away, and too much snow in the forecast. :-( Thanks for sharing the photos. Can't wait to see the DVD. Let me know how to get my address to you for mailing.
Thanks,
Phil
Drika-The show was magical. Brenda's sparkiling tops lit the stage up like Broadway. We had a marvelous time and loved your intricate weaving oof the story. BRAVCO TO ALL!!
Happy 2010!
