End of Week Two -- Nothing But Progress!

Update #4 · Aug 9, 2012 · 1 comment

Hello to all!

We have just passed the midpoint of the “Music of William Wright” Kickstarter campaign, and its success so far has exceeded all expectations! Today’s highlights alone include reaching the 77% funded mark (already!) and adding our 99th backer onto the William Wright bandwagon!

As word has spread, the project has also attracted online media attention. In the last few days, it has appeared on sites such as:

 Oak Park-River Forest Patch -- http://oakpark.patch.com/articles/frank-lloyd-wright-william-carey-wright-music-inspiration-david-patterson

  PrairieMod.com -- http://www.prairiemod.com/prairiemod/2012/07/help-kickstart-the-music-of-william-c-wright.html

New York music critic Kyle Gann’s blog in ArtsJournal -- http://www.artsjournal.com/postclassic/2012/08/music-is-fluid-architecture.html

The August 6th installment of “The Weekly Wright-Up,” the blog of the Darwin Martin Restoration Corporation -- http://wright-up.blogspot.com/ This entry was especially gratifying, being written by Jack Quinan, long-time Frank Lloyd Wright scholar, who said: “Wright makes it clear in his autobiography that an appreciation of music was the one great gift he received from his father, but it is a fleeting acknowledgment and the weight of significance in Wright’s formation, according to Wright, falls largely to his mother. Nevertheless, Wright’s architecture is redolent with musicality and this is nowhere more evident than at Taliesin and Taliesin West where music was an essential part of daily life in the fellowship years (and it continues today in the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and in Wisconsin Wright was known to broadcast Beethoven across the valley for the edification of local farmers. It appears that William Cary Wright’s impact on his son, once a mere footnote in history, is about to blossom into tangibility and significance.” Who could ask for better press than that?

The second half of the campaign remains. Many of you have already spread the news of our effort to others who may be interested in contributing to the cause. And some have done even more than that (and without any prompting from me – thanks so much for the self-motivated effort!). But if you haven’t sounded a reminder call lately or picked up your cyber-megaphone yet, this halfway point would be an ideal time to do so. The publicity flames require constant fanning from one quarter or another, so if you’d enjoy a turn at the bellows, by all means, please feel free!

Thanks again for your support and encouragement! Given the success of the first half of the campaign, I’m eager to see what transpires in the coming two weeks! More soon!

 --David Patterson
