ABOUT THE FILM
UNITED IN ANGER: A HISTORY OF ACT UP is the first feature-length documentary about how ACT UP (the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power), a small group of men and women of all races and classes, came together to change the world and save each other’s lives. The film takes the viewer through the planning and execution of a dozen exhilarating major actions including Seize Control of the FDA, Stop the Church, and Day of Desperation, with a timeline of many of the other zaps and actions that forced the U.S. government and mainstream media to deal with the AIDS crisis. UNITED IN ANGER reveals the group’s complex culture – meetings, affinity groups, and approaches to civil disobedience mingle with profound grief, sexiness, and the incredible energy of ACT UP.
WHY WE MADE THIS FILM
Sarah Schulman and I have been conducting and disseminating the ACT UP Oral History Project and struggling to make this film over the past 10 years because we feel it is critical that the world know about the efforts of ACT UP to counter the government neglect and the distortions of the mainstream press in response to the AIDS crisis in America. We know this film has the power to educate and inspire younger generations to make social change.
HOW YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL HELP
The film is nearly finished, and we need your help to cover post production costs of editing, color correction, archival footage and music rights. We've just begun the process of distribution, and your contribution will help us get this film out into the world. We are raising the bare minimum needed to begin the distribution process. Any additional funds will help us reach more and more people, and work towards our ultimate goal of getting this film into the curriculum of colleges around the world.
YOUR CONTRIBUTION IS TAX DEDUCTIBLE
United in Anger is a film of the ACT UP Oral History Project, a program of MIX NYC, a 501c3 non-profit. Your donation is tax-deductible (less the value of any reward you may choose). We're happy to provide a tax deduction letter upon request!
