Travels with Jonah: only one week left!
In 1999, Joe Diffie released the runaway country hit, "Prop me up beside the jukebox if I die," and the song has been stuck in my head ever since. Well, sort of. The protagonist of Joe Diffie's song loved the honky tonk life, enough to want his mortal remains to remain, just a stiff with a stiff drink in his hand.
What's this got to do with me or this Kickstarter? Thank goodness you asked. I love the writing life (cue the steel guitars), as much as Joe Diffie loves to sing about jukeboxes --actually way, way more than that-- and your support is so important.
This Kickstarter really is a kickstart. For a long time, I've been thinking about the creative process and finding my true voice as a writer, not just the voice of a writer, but my own real voice, if that's possible. I've been thinking about identity, American and otherwise. This is a vast country, and that's a cliche, and my voice is one among many, many, many others. So that you hear it at all makes me very happy.
The support you provide doesn't just get me and Mandie across the country. It gets us from here to there. It also gets you weird non sequitur mini-essays about country singers and living one's dream. Wow! You are really the winners in all of this!
There is one week left for our Kickstarter. Its deliverables will never, in a million years, be nearly as rad as any Joe Diffie song, and it will be seen and heard by far fewer people, but I think it might mean something more.
At the moment, we're just over halfway to our funding goal of $2,000. I hope we make it! Thanks for sharing this journey with us!
