About this project
Hangin' with Fidel is an original web-based sitcom. The premise is simple: Two guys share an apartment with Fidel Castro. This is a sitcom in the classic style: a catchy theme song, laugh track, hilarious situations, physical comedy, catch phrases, weekly moral lessons, and even "a very special episode."
HWF was the last writing project of our good friend Brock H. Brown. Before he passed away in December 2009, Brock had completed the screenplays for 8 10-minute episodes. He was looking forward to directing and co-starring in the show. We are now ready to carry on and make this show a reality.
We plan to shoot all 8 episodes in the classic 3-camera sitcom setup from October 27-30, 2011. We will release one episode every two weeks beginning in January 2012. We are making HWF. With your support, we can make it great. Funds will be used to enhance the production in two important areas:
Hi-Def Cameras - $2000 will be used to purchase 3 hi-def video cameras. This will not only make the show look fantastic, but will allow us to complete all of the episodes in only four days.
Awesome Sets - $1000 will be used to construct three main sets: Living Room, Kitchen, and Bathroom. With your help we can build and decorate some awesome sets to bring this apartment to life.
We have put together some awesome rewards that will help you get personally involved in this project. All backers are invited to become part of our "virtual live studio audience." We'll send you a special script and you can record your own ooohs, ahhhs, and wild laughter to be included in our laugh track.
The rewards only get better from there, including special edition DVD's, announcer duties, a guest spot on the show, and visits to the set.
Thanks for your support!
Cast
Gabriel Loyer as Fidel
Gabriel Loyer has been Matter of Chance's go-to actor since the beginning. He has many memorable roles: a mental patient on MOC's first film "I'm Not Crazy," a spastic mathematician in "Intense Math," a deranged deputy in "Arizona Citizen," a short-tempered boxing manager in "The Sweet Science," and the list goes on and on. Without a doubt, Gabe can carry the show as a zany version of Fidel Castro.
Sean Mullaney as Brock
Sean Mullaney is a multi-talented performer with experience in musical theater, as a solo performer singing country, rock, and other genres, and as a guitarist/vocalist in a band. He may be new to film, but we are confident he's got the chops to play the lead role of Brock, a grumpy barista trying to break in as a screenwriter.
Jordan Ignacio as Jordan
Jordan Ignacio is a veteran of independent productions, experimental films, and music videos, both in front of and behind the lens. He is also a songwriter and musician. The character Jordan is an up-and-coming movie producer who is quite lovable but hopelessly dumb and obsessed with appearances.
Steve Briscoe as Mr. Lynch
Steve Briscoe writes, directs, produces, and has starred in myriad films, including "Cowboy Dreams" with Bill Engvall and Danny Trejo. He has also toured the country as a comedian, and it's that great sense of comedy and timing that he will bring to the role of Mr. Lynch, our Bay of Pigs veteran landlord.
Chris Blackford as Rick
Chris Blackford is an exciting talent, new to the world of acting. He brings lot of energy and imagination to his performances. We are looking forward to working with him. Chris will play Rick, a laid back Californian pitted against Fidel in a battle for the apartment.
Richard Briggs as Robbie
Richard Briggs is a theater pro recently breaking in to film. You'll see him soon in Amanda Mebly's "Kerry and Angie." We couldn't be more excited to have him aboard. Richard will play Robbie, a UCLA Law student on a mission to win a room in the apartment. Can he outsmart Fidel?
Max Bullis as Max
Max Bullis is an award-winning actor and all-around swell guy, a veteran of many short films, including the beloved "The Intervention of Brad," in which he played a singing, dancing Frankenstein. What can't Max do? Max will play the character "Max," a laid-back flower child who comes to visit.
Regina Bellows as Regina
Regina Bellows is a talented young actress, and recent graduate of Emerson College in Boston. From a young age, she has graced stages throughout Arizona. She has been in everything from Fiddler on the Roof to Shakespeare. Regina will play Jordan's very important but hard-to-impress date.
Bob Dolan as Che
Bob Dolan is a captivating actor, having played the lead role in "The Governor," an international film festival darling (he also co-wrote and co-produced). Bob played a drug-addled club promoter in the Matter of Chance film "The Peoples' Champion." Now Bob will tackle the role of Che, a revolution-hopper who comes to crash with his buddy Fidel.
Larry Garcia as Hugo
Larry Garcia makes his triumphant return to the screen, after being featured in many of Matter of Chance's early films, including AGTC, Winter's Day, and Leonardo. Larry will play Fidel's buddy Hugo, the only man that can go toe-to-toe with Fidel when it comes to long-winded speeches.
Alden Fahl as The Ayatollah
Alden Fahl is a multi-talented graduate of the prestigious Colombia Film School and Sound Effects Supervisor for Matter of Chance film "Days of Being Wrinkle Free." Although we're not sure he's ever been in front of the camera, we do know that the role of The Ayatollah was written with him in mind, and we're stoked to have him on board.
James Leatherman as Agent Johnson
James Leatherman has done Shakespearean productions, stage dramas, musicals, several feature films, and over a dozen short films. You might recognize him as the lead in the award-winning "Strong Brain" short film-noir series, or from the stunning "The Fourth Reich" which premiered at the Almost Famous Film Festival in February. James will play the straight-laced Agent Johnson, looking for a few bad guys.
Vincent Igneri as Batista
Vincent Igneri debuted on the silver screen at the age of five in the Universal Studios production "Nunzio." A Brooklyn native now transplanted to Phoenix, he is breaking back into the film industry as a writer and actor. Vincent will portray Batista, a street-wise, scheming temporary landlord.
Creative Team
Brock H. Brown - ScreenwriterBrock H. Brown was a talented screenwriter and director and a great friend. He wrote five feature screenplays and countless short film screenplays. He won many awards for his writing and directing, and was Featured Director on IFC's MediaLab Shorts Uploaded in October 2006. His star was also rising in Hollywood, where he was very near to selling a screenplay when he passed away in December 2009 at the age of 26.
Bruce Dellis - Musical Director
Bruce Dellis is an award-winning writer and director of films of all genres and styles, but always heavy on the absurdity. That he's teaching a class called "Writing for Weirdos" says a whole lot. He's also written a number of bizarre musicals, which is why we're excited to have him as our Musical Director, responsible for our super-catchy theme song.FAQ
