Update #1: Project Completed!

Posted on March 30, 2010

Hey everyone!

Just wanted you all to see how the project turned out. It was way easier than I thought (thank goodness Niamoko knew how to mix and use cement) and the kids and I all had a great time. It took us about two hours and after we finished I bought everyone a Fanta.

Thank you for all of your support. The money raised helped to buy food for the primary school (a one month's supply, feeding 60 children!) and also helped to sponsor a girl from the village into a private school.

Also, I will be mailing out backer rewards this week. Everyone who provided me with an address will receive their backer reward.

Thank you again!

Great job. Happy faces. Good to know my name is on a bottle cap. Looking forward to wearing my bracelet. Thanks Carolyn.

Hey all!

I'm a 23-year-old Kent State University grad and I just got back from spending two months in northern Tanzania, where I volunteered working with widows and orphans affected by HIV/AIDS. It was the best experience of my life, and I recently deferred acceptance into law school so that I would be able to go back this year.

I was involved in some amazing projects while I was in Tanzania. Besides working with the orphanage I taught French at a vocational school where I worked with older teens from the community. I also did home visits with HIV+ women and their children. I worked with women who were widowed due to AIDS--they started their own tourism business, and we helped to get it off the ground.

I love to travel, and can't wait to go back to Tanzania! Right now I'm just working and fundraising for my return trip. Thanks so much for checking out my project! Much love!
