About this project
We are raising funds to have a theatrical release of our award winning independent film "WILLETS POINT" written and directed by first time filmmaker T.J. Collins. These funds will be used for a limited release in New York City.
"WILLETS POINT” is a heartfelt family drama that centers on Guillo and Doris Blanco, a young couple living in Queens New York along with their 9 year old daughter. Their financial and personal problems catch up with them when they are threatened with eviction. Their marriage is tested when these unbearable circumstances brings to light a troubled past and threatens the future they all share. Guillo Blanco, a mechanic in Willets Point Queens is fearful of losing his job as a result of eminent domain. His wife Doris Blanco works for a wine distributor selling wine to local restaurants when she is diagnosed with a rare and fatal disease known as Huntingtons disease. This film intimately explores the lives of ordinary people and the extraordinary resilience of the human condition.
We would like to premiere this film at the world-renowned and prestigious QUAD CINEMA in New York City, a venue for the best of independent, foreign and documentary films. The QUAD has also been a beneficial haven for young filmmakers looking to show and market their films. "WILLETS POINT" has been selected to play the QUAD for a reasonable rental fee and will be booked at the QUAD for one full week (7 days) and scheduled from 5 to 6 shows per day. T.J. Collins is an award-winning filmmaker with over 11 years of experience winning awards and honorable mentions for his films. Through his production company Poseidon Production he produced his first feature film in 2009 titled "Willets Point" serving as the writer and director. The film won the Audience Award and several major nominations at the 12th annual Long Island International Film Expo.
Mr. Collins has served as a peer judge for the 2007 New York Emmy awards and is a member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences New York Chapter.
In addition he was a founder and executive director of the Long Island Latino International Film Festival from 2004-2009. In this capacity Mr. Collins was responsible for the festival production and selection of films both domestic and international for over 5 years. He is a NALIP Producers Academy and Writes Lab Fellow 2009. Other member affiliations would include the IFP, Film Independent, and the Long Island Film Foundation.
Because of Mr. Collins's involvement in the film industry he has been interviewed on television and print media such as ABC TV, NBC TV, Newsday and the New York Times. Mr. Collins is planning to shoot his next completed feature screenplay titled
"Eli Moran" in the fall of 2011.
