That does sound reassuring. And I understand that "Film adaptation is not about copying the book piece by piece", even though I do see why you would, from what I wrote, think I was an idiot and didn't realize that.

I am not an idiot however, for example I realize that titling it The Death Machine wouldn't work, even though that's what AJ (who by the way was a quite a dick about it) would have wanted.

I am completely on board with that you have to make a film, not a string of pictures to go with the book.

But RM is actually written to be as film-like as written text would allow. Everything is from an external perspecive (except the final scene inside the formation of course, where it intentionally was from Hawks perspective).

I'd like to learn more about what you think the core meaning of the book actually is. What are your thougths on the triads? Say Hawks-Barker-Machine or Barker-Connington-Claire, for example?

I also have nits to pick. Why 2053 instead of 2059? If you have to place it in the future that would seem the obvious choice. And what's with the "fuel on the moon" thing? (Avoid that, Moon did it to perfection already). A Rift? Why explain it? Much of the point with the formation in the book is that it is unintelligible and menacing.

I'd love to see a draft. I bet I could give you a whole bunch of pointers for you to ignore with scorn... :-)

      Thanks for your thoughts Adonaj.

We have yet to decide on the final name. We are discussing calling it The Death Machine, but it is a decision that is far off. You may say that Rogue Moon is our working title.

Film adaptation is not about copying the book piece by piece, but about taking the core meaning of a book and creating something new in a different medium- but something that serves and reinforces the original material. Books are made out of words and films are made out of sound and vision- they by their nature have to be different. Otherwise, why would one bother make a film?

That is our remit, and that is how we are working. (The script to Bladerunner is exceptionally different from the book.. yet when it was screened for Dick, he turned to the filmmaking team and said "How did you get into my head?".)

There is no way we will go towards the mainstream commercialization of I,Robot- we can only aspire to the heights of Bladerunner and A Scanner Darkly.

      Hey guys.

I'd like to help out, financially if need be. But I have some serious reservations regarding the synopsis.

I was in touch with AJ before he died and discussed among other things, his ideas of what a Rogue Moon movie would look like. He was quite dismissive of the student film version made in the 80's.

The way you are headed now is bound to do to Budys vision what "I Robot" did to Asimov, or what every single film except perhaps "Blade Runner" and maybe "A Scanner Darkly" did to Dick. A movie with the same title as the book, and nothing else in common with it.

Are you interested in making a reasonable film version, or are you just like all the other SF "movie makers", just wanting to use the name to cash in on the franchise, and toss the book contents aside.

A funny aside: did you know that AJ wanted the book to be called THE DEATH MACHINE (I have the hardcopy here with that title) and that he never liked the Rogue Moon title.

Anyways, please take some time to read the book more carefully and reconsider some of the choices made in the synopsis.

Ai, you Rogues and your *$#%! Kickstarter projects. You are all bankrupting me. How can I not donate to a project with the word "Rogue" in it...(realistically, how can I not donate to one of the most talented filmmakers I know?)
