About this project
Background
The iKlimt app has a precursor: the iKlimt.com site. In early 2000 I launched iKlimt: the Life & Work of Gustav Klimt. It was an instant success among online Klimt fans, it won several awards and quickly ranked among the top ten Google search results for Gustav Klimt.

A completely redesigned version was
launched in 2004 and another one in 2009. Currently more than 700 sites link to the iKlimt website, and it now ranks among the top 2 Klimt sites on all major search engines
(right behind Wikipedia), receiving on average 450 visitors per day, or roughly
170,000 visitors every year.

But despite its successes iKlimt has one problem. It was built using Adobe Flash, which was the best web technology available at the time to deliver rich, interactive experiences. Unfortunately, that same
technology now renders it all but unusable when it comes
to the ever more popular Apple iOS devices. Like the iPad.
That’s where you come in.
The iKlimt App

With your help I hope to launch the iKlimt app for the iPad in March of 2012, just in time to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Gustav Klimt’s birth. But don't think the app will be just an iPad version of the website. It won't. Thought the app will have the same high-quality design, ease of navigation and great interactive experience iKlimt fans have come to expect, the iKlimt app will have exclusive features and content not available in the current online version, such as:
- new design
- a brand new section—an interactive timeline of his life and work and the times he lived in
- new, full-screen format at 1024X768
- paintings section divided by periods
- a new search menu to easily access Klimt's work
- expanded biography
- expanded featured work, with a total of 240 paintings and more than 60 drawings and sketches
- beautiful music in HD

I hope Klimt admirers, iKlimt fans,
art enthusiast, and people who enjoy good design and rich interactive experiences alike will be inspired and decide to back this project. If you choose not to, you can still buy it for a very reasonable price come Spring!
The money I raise will go directly into creating this app. Your donations will cover the following:
- Basic expenses so I can take a couple of months off to finish this app
- Pay for all the rewards offered to backers
- Pay a programmer to turn final DCB files into binary files (I know, too technical) so I can upload the app to iTunes. Sounds simple. But it’s not.

iKlimt and the iPad. They just go
together.

I was born in Mexico City, where I studied graphic design and worked for five years as a print and web designer. In 1999 my wife and I decided a change of airs would do us good, so I got a job in a design firm in Manhattan, and we moved to Brooklyn in the winter of 2000. I left the firm in 2006 and since then I have been working as a freelance web designer and front-end developer.
I recently launched my first children’s book app for the iPad, Magnus the Magnetic Dog. And, after the great success of iKlimt.com I decided to start working on the iKlimt app for the iPad, set to be completed (with the help of Kick Starter backers) in early 2012, just in time to celebrate the150th anniversary of Gustav Klimt's birth!
