Update #16: Spring!
Update #15: Rewards Update
Update #14: You're Invited!
C'mon on out tomorrow to celebrate our successful Kickstarter campaign and the incredible work of our more than 800 students during the 2010-2011 school year.
The fun starts at 10am at the New York Botanical Garden. Enter at the Mosholu Gate, where you'll be directed to the auditorium. Films will start @ 10:15am and will run until about 11:45am. Event details, including directions here: http://www.leaveitbetter.com/leave-it-better/events/136/
We'll be screening 7 short films from 7 of our 10 schools: PS 165, Girls Prep Bronx, PS 94, PS 306, Dr. Sun Yat Sen, Harbor Heights, and Hamilton Heights. Our students have been documenting the experience as they compost, plant seeds and enjoy the fruits of their labor, and this will be a visual overview of the experience.
It promises to be a special day, so please c'mon out. About 500 kids will be in attendance cheering at every turn :)
Finally, thanks again to all of our incredible backers, who have given this documentary project a big boost... and to all the Leave It Better ReGeneration staff: Dominique, Roz, Cary, Emma, Jen, Tanjina, Ryan, K, Joe and the many incredible generous volunteers who made this happen. Also, as always a big thanks to the teachers and students at all of our schools. And thanks to all of our partners: NYBG/Bronx Green-Up, Chipotle, Windowfarms, NYC Compost Project, and Grow to Learn.
We're excited for this upcoming school year, and for our cross-platform documentary project, a reGeneration, to grow.
best thoughts,
Graham
Update #13: Meet the Teachers: Makini Velazquez
The students at PS 94 are all "special needs" with various forms of autism, and cognitive impairment.
The warm-hearted ESL (English as Second Language) teacher, Makini Velazquez, talks us through the impact of our project.
It's sure to bring a smile to your face :)
