Gremolata & Cancellaresca Milanese Rewards
Hi everyone,
There seems to be a little confusion about the rewards delivery for Gremolata & Cancellaresca Milanese. Although the expected delivery date of the rewards was November 2012, I unfortunately cannot make the rewards without the actual type. Once I get the type from Micah I will put aside everything else to make the rewards you were promised as quickly as possible.

First Casting of Gremolata & Cancellaresca Milanese
Sorry it has been so long since my last update. Micah is nearly done with the first trial casting of Gremolata & Cancellaresca Milanese. Once I receive the casting, I will proof it and then we will make any corrections necessary to the side bearings and alignment. Once those are done, the type will be ready to cast. I have been able to proof a few of the control characters and there have been no corrections needed, which is a good sign that the correction phase will be quick and I will have my type soon. In the meantime, below is a link to a photo of some of the first casting (it's a cell phone photo, I'll send higher-res photos when I receive the type).

Matrix Engraving Completed!
Last week Micah finished engraving all 186 matrices for Gremolata and Cancellaresca Milanese. This week he will begin the arduous process of fitting the matrices so that they will be ready for a trial casting. To do this, each matrix must be measured using a Thomas Edison era microscope, milled down in increments of 0.001" to get just the right amount of space on either side of the characters, planed to the proper depth, and aligned vertically before the first trial casting. Once the casting is complete I can then begin proofing and making final adjustments. Although we originally hoped to be finished by this time, we are realistically about half way through the process. The fact is that we have never attempted a project of this size and there is simply no way to rush it. On the positive side, the final half of the project will be much more active then the first so there will be more to report and more pictures beginning in the next month or so. In the meantime, I have attached a couple of pictures of the finished matrices.
