Update #11: Metagame News (your final Kickstarter update)

Posted on February 15

Metagame supporters....
This email is chock full of news about the project that YOU helped create: the one and only Metagame. As an original Metagame supporter, we'd love to keep you informed about what is going on with the project that you funded into being. But we don't want to spam you! So this is our final Kickstarter general update. To stay on top of Metagame news, including special discounts, join our mailing list by visiting our website. And now, on to the news...

EXPANSION SETS NOW ON SALE!
You saw the sneak peek... now you can get the cards.

The Videogame Expansion Set 1.0 includes 30 all-new illustrated game cards and 15 tricky and hilarious comparisons. The expansion set is totally compatible with the original Metagame deck. With these new cards, you can finally answer burning questions like:

 - Which feels more like first love: Joust or Gauntlet?
 - Which is faster: Halo or Fruit Ninja?
 - Which is more responsible for the fraying of our moral fabric: Atari Combat or Words with Friends?

Visit the Metagame site now and pre-order your expansion set.

METAGAME MONDAYS! In other Metagaming news... join us for Metagame Mondays on Twitter! Every Monday, we tweet a Metagame comparison and the best 140-character argument wins a free deck! To follow the action or join right in, just search for the hashtag #metagamemonday.

Last week’s winner was @ryvvn with this tweet about why mentioning Fez was more likely to get you laid than Sword and Sorcery

Convey the same passion & dedication talking about
FEZ as @PHIL_FISH has shown during its development,
     that'll get you laid. #metagamemonday

Update #9: Final thanks + look what you did!

Posted on December 15

Metagame supporters, you did it.

If you haven't received your deck yet, you should be getting it in the near future. And just in case you want a sneak peek, here is a shot of the beautiful Metagame boxes:

The other good news is that we have the new Metagame site up and running. On the site, you can order more decks and our poster. And you can also order the Culture Edition, that takes the Metagame beyond games and into film, music, literature, architecture, and other forms of art and design. Supplies are limited, so act now!

The site has a forum where our players can share their Metagame experiences. We have already worked out a number of game variants - we can't wait to see more Metagame games emerge.

Just to thank you for being an early supporter of the Metagame phenomenon, we wanted to give you a coupon code good for 20% off any orders from our site through the end of the year. Just type WEDIDIT into the Shopify coupon code box during the checkout process.

We do have more plans in the works, including another massively multiplayer game at the Game Developers Conference this spring, an expansion set that (fingers crossed) will be on sale at GDC, and more work with the Culture Edition. But for now, we'll be busy filling all of the new Metagame orders that will happen when you spread the word about our game... right?

It's been fun. Thanks for sticking with us this far. We hope it's only the beginning.
And enjoy the game!

Much love,

its great. i think that you should have another section that people with the game can submit new game styles so that there is a nice data base for different game styles.

Daniel, thanks for your comment. On the Metagame website (http://metaga.me) in the forums section, you can suggest new Metagame rule sets and also new metagame card ideas.

Update #7: Metagame cards at the printer!

Posted on October 13, 2011

Hello everyone! It's time for another Metagame update.

We have a lot of good news: the card designs are complete and are currently at the printer. We've completed the Metagame poster, for those of you receiving that reward for your level of support. We've been playing the Metagame at game conferences, most recently the Digital Game Research Association conference in Helversum in The Netherlands and Indiecade in Los Angeles. I think our favorite play of the game was designer Myles Nye actually rapping an argument at Indiecade about the game Parappa the Rapper.

The not-quite-as-great news is that the printing and shipping of the cards will take longer than anticipated. We struggled to find a balance between great quality and quick printing at a cost that we could afford. In the end, we decided to go with high-quality cards, but the only hitch is that the process is going to take several more weeks. To be safe, we can promise that you will get your cards in December. We are so sorry to have to give you another later date, but this one is final. We apologize for the delay, but we hope it will all be worthwhile when you get your Metagame cards in the mail.

As far as the cards themselves, we couldn't be happier with the images. We worked with amazing illustrators and they came up with some incredible images for the games they love. A few of the new cards are posted at the bottom of this update.

Now that we have the cards off to the printer, we are focusing on revamping the Metagame website and planning the next moves in our coming storm of Metagame activities. Keep an eye on the Local No. 12 website for details.

As always, thanks for the support!
