Thomas Allen and Sarah Cronin met in 2006 while working at the Middle East Club in Cambridge, Ma. After trading secret demos of their own songs, Tommy persuaded Sarah to combine forces…. Several months later, they christened themselves “Drug Rug,” a name that has made strangers laugh, and parents cry.
Their songs are inspired by the storytelling style of early folk musicians, comic books, campgrounds, pet sounds, strange dreams, people who’ve passed on, and the illustrations of Garth Williams.
SPIN Magazine: “Together the two's vocals, paired with their brand of sunshine lo-fi, teeter on the shrill end, a la the beginnings of electric-Dylan.”
American Songwriter: “Drug Rug plays a mightily banged-up mix of blues, rock and country that,in spite of itself, manages to be insanely catchy and full of perk….the Rug spits venom and sugar
into their eponymous debut with gleeful disregard for convention.”
NPR Song Of The Day : http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php…
URB: Their 60s influenced, easy going sound contrasts well with rugged love ballad lyrics and keep listeners in head-bobbing, foot tapping heaven.
The Needle Drops/NPR : “It goes without saying where the music was recorded and what it was recorded on, but the rough sound give them an inescapable Moldy Peaches quality.”

My Old Kentucky Blog : “Drug Rug is the boyfriend/girlfriend duo of Sarah Cronin and Thomas Allen. They obviously haven't been together that long because the songs are still so happy and shiny.” Like a lot of bands, it's The Byrds and Beach Boys meet the indie stylings of today.”
