Theme Time Radio Hour aired 100 original episodes from 2006-2009. It was a great, quirky radio show that recalled a time when radio was still radio and deejays played anything they felt like.
"Night Time in the Big City: Stories From Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour" is a book with a focus on the stories behind the stories Bob Dylan told on his satellite radio show. For example, why Elvis wanted to be Dean Martin, how did Phil Silvers end up writing "Nancy with the Laughing Face," who really wrote "Rum and Coca-Cola" and so on.
I'm planning "Night Time in the Big City" as having three distinct sections... Dreams, Themes, and Schemes. "Dreams" will be the stories behind the stories; "Themes," facts about the shows themselves, and "Schemes," background on how the show came to be and how it was put together.
I've been working on the book since mid-2009, using as the foundation the blog I created in 2006 to document the show. If you want to get a taste for what the book will be like, see the following Dreamtime posts:
Dreams: Hadacol (That's All): http://www.dreamtimepodcast.com/2008/02/episode-51-hadacol-thats-all.html
Themes: "Weather" The Annotated First episode of Theme Time Radio Hour: http://www.dreamtimepodcast.com/2010/01/annotated-weather-theme-time-radio-hour.html
Schemes: Back Where I Come From: The Roots of Theme Time Radio Hour http://www.dreamtimepodcast.com/2007/11/episode-45-back-where-i-come-from-roots.html
The show's history deserves to be documented, and as other writers on Kickstarter have said about their projects, I want to write the book because I want to read it.
For a variety of reasons, I've decided to go the self-publication route, and am looking for $5,000 in funding for licensing fees and publishing/marketing costs. Based on feedback from Bob Dylan fans, I think it's a goal easily attainable.
