Over the years we had accumulated enough Apple chargers that having a cable handy was never a problem. However, with the release of the new lightning jack for the iPhone 5 we found ourselves back at square one... having to remember our charger every time we left home. Within days of having the iPhone 5 we had no choice but make a new friend - Nomad: An Apple certified cable that has no home.
While the aesthetics of the Nomad was important to us, the most critical aspect of our cable design was to make it Apple certified. We had purchased too many knockoff cables in the past that stop working after a month. Creating a quality cable that would last was a top priority.

Up until now
We have established relationships with three different Chinese manufacturers who we see as potential partners in producing the Nomad. One of these manufacturers, a reputable producer of iPhone accessories, provided us with the prototypes that are pictured and filmed throughout our project page.
Once funding begins
We will closely review quotes from these three overseas manufacturers and finalize our assessment of who will be the best partner in producing the Nomad. We do not want to accept any quotes prior to achieving our goal in the event that we exceed our goal. This would allow us to offer more colors and options!
Once successfully funded
We will have chosen a manufacturer and will be able to immediately move forward with the tooling of molds - followed by a full production run. The entire production run will either be overseen directly by us or one of our overseas associates we have worked with in the past. From there, each Nomad will be tested, packaged, and sent directly to Chicago where we will box and ship them out to you within days!
With a successfully funded project, we will get our first run of Nomads manufactured, packaged, and shipped to your key ring by February 2013. Our ultimate goal is to make the Nomad available in the retail market.

Manufacturing:
It was extremely important to us to find an Apple Mfi certified manufacturer to ensure quality. The cost of our initial run is higher than we would prefer. However, we did not want to compromise the integrity of the cable.
Cost:
Establishing both a retail and manufacturing cost were a big challenge. While we were able to establish relationships with overseas suppliers, production costs were not available until hours before submitting our final project.

It isn't an option to offer this directly with Kickstarter - however, we will ship an additional cable for each additional $15 you pledge.

Unfortunately kickstarter doesn't allow tiered pricing. We apologize to neighboring countries, Mexico and Canada, that would otherwise pay less. We will refund those in Mexico and Canada $5 upon shipment. Details will follow once successfully funded.

The lightning end of the cable is water resistant. You can wipe it clean with confidence that it will not corrode. That said, we did strongly consider a cap but it boiled down to the premise that we felt it wasn't necessary.

Providing an Apple certified cable drives the cost up significantly. You are investing in an Apple approved product - not a cheaply made knock off that might fail to work after several weeks.
